The Fishing Thread

I’ve been watching some underwater videos of pike investigating dead baits. It’s really intriguing. I thought they would steam in and smash them but no. They are very cagey around the baits. I’ll see if I can find them again and post them for you.

Indeed so many on You Tube.
Equally they will have times when they just amble a long the bottom amongst fish and not look interested.

Just had a look on Kjellingstraumen campsites web site and saw this photo. Absolute disgrace taking all those fish instead of keeping just what you will eat. I know the camp site owner hates people taking more than they need so he must have been raging at whoever kept all these fish.

The angler must have a very small rod
I thought those kind of photos were confined to the early 1900s

Just fished a clean beach from low tide up. Two of us with lug, cart, squid, mussel and mackerel. Every cast the hooks came back stripped clean and we were both getting loads of knocks but no fish.

Must have been loads of crabs robbing the bait.

Roll on next time.

Had another 10lb fish.
The only run of the day…..and awayyyyy.

Just sat the last hour with an incredible feeling of being content.
Those that post on this thread we are so very fortunate to make that connection with fishing and everything about it.
This picture just sums it up.

Keep going Mate.
It’s those days where you blank and have that frustration that strive you on to the next time. Keep posting and it will come 🎣
My Mate has blanked 5 times in a row on the Trent. After huge Barbel.
He is an excellent angler and I look up to him. He was the bloke that got me into Barbel fishing.

He sent me this tonight. Cracking bloke and a laugh.🤣

That is an awful photo.
Exactly what you said, take a few what you need and put the rest back.

I am doing my bit for fish stocks by ensuring I don’t catch anything!

I am helping support tackle shops by buying bait and gear as well.

I’m off now to buy a seat box as I used a Greys canvas bag yesterday and as the tide came in it washed up over my bag. I’m going for the blue Shakespeare box exactly the same as the box I sold a few years ago. But do I get the Breakaway conversion kit as well?
Oh dear when I got to the shop I changed my mind and bought a Diawa box as it had a better lid and a padded strap. Only trouble is it’s black and white,

Oh god the shame.

Well Big Jeff I blanked today 😞
Not only that got all the way to the reservoir, loaded up my trolley and walked near on a mile down the bank. Got to the swim I wanted to fish and left all my buzz bars at home. Ffs. Walked all the way back pushing the trolley. Drove 8 miles picked them up and did the same walk.

The wind blowing straight across directly into my face.

Learnt something today that is going to hopefully to help me catch more Pike.
Grebes and Cormorants congregated where the main matches have been taking place.
No doubt the silver fish have followed the Carp anglers where they pile in the bait.
The pike will follow those silver fish.
Spoke to a Carp angler when walking past and he had been smashed by a Pike.

Away next week but will get back down there at the first opportunity.
Driven now to get that big one 🤞

Great that you got your box sorted. Don’t worry about the colour it will soon stink and remind you of your nearest and dearest rivals 🤣🎣

No doubt mate.

I can’t wait to get back out there. I have a great set of fishing mates so we stand on a beach away from everyone and have a good old shout and swear about everything. Then we hurl some 6 oz grippers into the distance and all is good.

Mind the occasional fish would be nice………

Cracking result mate.
Early Morning visit to Morrisons and they were not set up.
Taken dog out and went back in.
Asked lad behind the counter and I’ve got 2 trays of absolute quality sardines.

30 fish in total - mint condition.

Confident will catch some decent Pike with them 🎣🎣🎣

Fished a clean beach in the week. Two of us - we got 6 fish - 3 each. They were all flounders and we were able to return 4 of them.

Typical with flatties they are often deeply hooked so two had to be despatched.
The beach was quite busy and lots of dog walkers around. We were fishing up to high tide and had to keep moving our seat boxes further up the sand. While my mate was checking his rod a dog came and ate some of the mackerel he had out. Which had been frozen and defrosted twice. To add insult to injury the dog then pissed on one of his flatties and his seat box.

He wasn’t happy.

Nothing like experimenting with tackle and set ups.
Made up these Pike Pop-ups yesterday and tested them in a bucket of water.
Small ones Sardines, Medium - small Mackerel, Large - large Mackerel.

Make up my own traces.

Just need a few days to have a go. Hopefully next week.

Anyone catching?

Not been out for a few days but got the freezer stocked with frozen blacks, mussel, Cart, Squid and Mackerel.

I will be talking to my fishing mate and see if we can get out over the weekend.

Southerly winds here, quite light and the sea state is quite calm so really we need a bit of a blow. Northerly winds coming soon so hopefully things may change.

Arghhhh.

Lost a decent Pike earlier.
Bite alarm went off, bobbin was bouncing. Looked across the reservoir and thought it was a Grebe as fairly close to where my bait was.
Half hearted strike, the fish felt heavy and took off then dropped the bait.

Stood there, swore as you do.
Lessons learnt and will be ready next time. Pushing my luck and going back tomorrow 🎣
Happens to us all @Jon Dough.
Makes us more determined though. Still mild and nothing better sitting with nature mate.🎣
