Nissan

To achieve this, Nissan will cut global production capacity by 20% and reduce its global workforce by 9,000. The company is implementing various measures to lower selling, general, and administrative expenses, decrease the cost of goods sold, rationalize its asset portfolio, and prioritize capital expenditures and investments in research and development.
CEO Makoto Uchida will voluntarily forfeit 50% of his monthly compensation starting in November 2024 and the other executive committee members will also voluntarily take a pay reduction accordingly.
We would appreciate your feedback following this announcement. It will take only about 5 minutes.

Doesn't sound good 🫤

The biggest positive for Nissan sunderland and suppliers at current time
Is the fact its currently a Labour government
Which in previous history is for the workers and entrenched with the Unions
So if any shit hit the fan
Nissan will go to government asking for bailout and grants which they know they will get . And no chance unions which is the backbone of the Labour government would allow Nissan sunderland to close
Simple as that
Bailout and grants for what though? To give to people to buy cars? This gradual change to electric is like nothing Nissan have faced previously.

I disagree with this mind. We’ve been solely electric for a few years (previously had one electric / one diesel) and I could list ten plus electric charging points within ten minutes of home. (Live in SR2).

Plus - we don’t have a charger at home.

Anyway, I won’t derail the thread. I hope everyone at Nissan Sunderland is unaffected by today’s news.
You don’t even need to know the app zap map tells you exactly where they are distance time if they are free etc

Battery plant over road 80% owned by china thats next
Will nissan still be awarding 10% pay rise over 2 years plus 2 x 3k Christmas pay lumpers on pay ???
Some people think they are 😂😂

Purely out of interest, but what are the cost comparisons with a typical ICE vehicle if you're using public infrastructure to charge? Or do you have options available at/through work? I got the impression that the public charging network wasn't cheap

On public infrastructure, it does vary a lot.

Some workplaces offer it for free/discounted, while others do it at a bit less than half the equivalent cost of an ICE.

There are some public sites that do it for 30-40p/kWh (eg at the Rosedene).

Fast charging (for example the Fastned site at the south side of the Wearmouth bridge) charges 79p/kWh. That works out at around £40 for 200 miles of city driving. (Less if driving on motorways at 60mph+). But it only takes 30 mins for a half charge and 45 mins for 3/4.

I quite often leave one of the cars at my folks - their overnight Octopus rate works out at about £3.50 for 200 miles of city driving! Unbeatable.

That's terrible in reality.

Is it? I’d worked it out as the 79p/kWh as being roughly the same as what diesel was costing me in a 40mpg car.

Ie £75 ish to fill the tank and I’d get 350- 400 miles out of that.

Apologies if my maths see wrong!

I’m guessing you weren’t referring to the £3.50 for 200 miles with home charging?!!

I'm talking about half an hour for half a charge.
Tbh it doesn’t bother me. She’ll just be watching crap on tele and I’ll either listen to a podcast or catch up on calls / WhatsApp.

Tbh - the bulk of our charging is either her at work (which is free) or me when I ‘call in to see my folks’ (which I do as well, just with a little side benefit) 🤣 - when we just leave the cars parked up to get charged.

Volumes have been low for years now so I wouldn't say it's been thriving since Brexit really.

Caterpillar regularly lay people off around this time of year like.

Atmosphere on shop floor in nissan is lusshh . Everyone in limbo . Uncertain times like . But
Rolon the 10% pay rise and 2 x 3k Xmas lumpers in pay talks !!
