The Fishing Thread

We went along to South Shields pier today. They have still got security on but the first gate was wide open and stayed open after the vans went through whereas previously they were closing it. The cranes are now gone but vans continue to go up and down so clearly work is still ongoing.

We fished into the harbour from the first gate with Rag, Lug, cart, razor fish, mussel and squid. My mate got one tiny flattie which was returned and I got nowt. It was quite windy and chilly. I’ve just got a new Sonik rod and Diawa reel so it was nice to try them out but it would have been better to have hooked into something.

There’s always another day. ☹️

More people fish on a Saturday than attend league football.

Aye, and that was part of my point. Most don't realise how many anglers there are. Not wanting to get on the lads case who couldn't understand the appeal of fishing, but I'd love to take him Mackie bashing on Roker pier in August when the kids are off school, I'd be amazed if he didn't like that

Love nothing more than my week in SW Scotland on my own every summer

Prefer sea loch fishing me like.

Lovely ❤️
First time I fished here after finding the mark, I stayed 4 days. The only other human I saw went past on a boat.

….and you never shouted at him.🤣

I love Etive and all the surrounding area. Had some canny hake out of there one time and also plagued by doggies. Excellent freshwater fishing nearby too, trout perch and pike

A mutual wave.

Loch Etive, through Bonawe quarry.

Always remember fishing my favourite stretch on the Thames for Barbel.
Back of a weir and a sign before entering the backwater, “no boats.” It is a private stretch of water.
Caught a couple and optimistic to catch a few more.

…..next minute this complete twat starts paddling up in a canoe. It’s not a wide stretch and straight over the baited area.
I’m generally a placid bloke but I gave him some verbals.

Remember once we were fishing the Kennet & Avon Canal at Midgham when some organised canoe race/event/whatever started coming through. An hour and a bloody half they were coming though at various intervals 😠

Nothing worse 🤣
Mind you I was fishing the Teme once and heard horns getting louder and louder.
Next minute I have a full pack of hounds swimming across the river, down the bank behind me. One on my lap.
Big mistake feeding them luncheon meat.

They were after mink. They were very apologetic.
As they were dogs they were excused. I proceeded to blank 😞🤣
