Milan Aleksic - Confirmed

Milan Aleksić was a part of FK Partizan academy. Partizan is a club that has been producing top talents for years and their academy has been the highest rated academy in Serbia for years. He went with their first-team pre-season and was excellent, but for some reason he wasn't under pro contract at the time and Radnički Kragujevac stole him from Partizan. Radnički had a terrible start of the season, as they lost first 6 games, with Aleksić only making one appearance of the bench. They then won the next game and lost the game after that with Aleksić not featuring at all. They looked like relegations certs. Their coach got sacked and the new coach that came in started giving youth players lot more chances and he let them play with freedom. They made a good run in which Aleksic was coming off the bench and then around February he completely exploded. They went on a 8 game unbeated streak(drew first two and won 6 in a row after that) and Aleksic was one of their best players. They ended up securing a UEFA Conference League qualifying spot, which is the first time they reached a European competition in the last 54 years. This season, he was probably the only good player in those two qualifying games, and you've already seen the two goals he's scored as the video has already been shared here.

He now got a call up for our senior national team for the Nations League A games against Spain and Denmark, so if you have time to watch those games you might get a chance to see him play (if he gets a chance to play that is).

Not sure what formation Sunderland plays, so not sure where he'll slot in, but his best position is the number 8 role. He can play as a 10 too, and even as a defensive midfielder, although I think his defensive attributes aren't good enough for him to be the only defensive midfielder, but it could work if it was in a "double pivot". Without a shadow of doubt, his best attribute is his passing. One of the most naturaly gifted passers I've seen. His shooting and ball carrying is excellent too. He's a very confident, hard-working player. That being said, Serbian league is much slower paced than the Championship, and he'll most likely need some time to get up to speed. I hope that you'll be patient with him in regards to that. I'll try to watch as much games Sunderland games as possible now, as I do with all Serbian players abroad and I hope you'll do well.

I probably forgot some stuff I wanted to say, but this it it for now. If you have any questions you'd think I could answer, feel free to ask.
Love that a Serbian signed up for this forum! Thanks for the write up

He's French. Does that mean he's automatically got an extensive knowledge of French football? Did Michael Beale have an extensive knowledge of English football?

And he looks like Wenger a bit

The start he has made has been excellent and it's pretty remarkable the impact on a short space of time but come on lads, it's three games.

Michael beale did have an extensive knowledge of English football. He was just a crap head coach.

Thank you so much for that analysis. Great to hear and I hope you enjoy watching Sunderland.

Fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to write that up.

Thank you Milan, welcome to SAFC 👍

At this moment in time that's all he is IMO. He's been bought on potential.

And you'd like to think that every player we sign is backed up with research?
Like every other transfer in the history of transfers then?

Even when Madrid bought Bellingham from Dortmund, it was on his 'potential' to become a great player for them.

Every single transfer carries an element of risk - this one seems to be a calculated one. Let's just enjoy it

Games are won and lost up front and in defence. Clough thought so and I've no reason to argue with him. A goalscorer who takes most chances that comes his way, 2 strong centre halves and a good keeper. Those are by far and away the most important positions as that's where games are won and lost.
Don't agree on this occasion. The game is not the same game that Clough managed in. Midfield is the most important part of a team by far.

Thanks for the write up, our midfield is a position of strength at the moment, so there will be no pressure for him to be thrown in. I expect he'll play a couple of u21 matches and then come off the bench in the first team, and that will be it for this season unless he's unbelievably good.

Cloughie built a framework for his better players to flourish. He wanted a good keeper to make all the goals his teams scored count.

He wanted centre halfs to win the ball and boot it as far away from his goal as possible or 'give it someone who can play'. You can't win games if you're conceding loads of goals.

He wanted a big striker to keep the ball to bring others into the game.

He also packed his sides with wingers, midfielders and another striker to create chances and score goals. His footballers. Football is a simple game. He didn't waste much time on the opposition. He wanted his team to be on their game, his game.

Don't disagree with any of this mate, but the game is anything but simple these days. All the great teams (lately) have excellent midfield's.

Cloughie had plenty of good players. John Robertson, Trevor Francis, Tony Woodcock, Archie Gemmel, Martin O'Niel etc. But his teams had balance too. Pace, aggression, work rate and goals.

No, football is still a simple game. Get the balance of your side right. Have good characters and good players and goals and you'll win more than you lose.

He won 2 European cup finals 1-0. His quality footballers scored the goals, Francis and Robertson. Keep in tight and make your goals count.

In the first final he didn't even make a substitution!

Welcome to the board.

They do, but for me the best teams have always had a keeper who saved them points, and a striker who could create & score all around the box.
This is probably true.

But, isn’t it a bit like saying the best formula one cars have always had wheels and an engine (so that’s all you need)?

Thanks for the insight and am sure the lad will do well with a bit of patience. Obvious that he has talent and just needs to mature.
All the best.

Absolutely. He won’t let you or others by the look of it.
