Milan Aleksic - Confirmed

Milan Aleksić was a part of FK Partizan academy. Partizan is a club that has been producing top talents for years and their academy has been the highest rated academy in Serbia for years. He went with their first-team pre-season and was excellent, but for some reason he wasn't under pro contract at the time and Radnički Kragujevac stole him from Partizan. Radnički had a terrible start of the season, as they lost first 6 games, with Aleksić only making one appearance of the bench. They then won the next game and lost the game after that with Aleksić not featuring at all. They looked like relegations certs. Their coach got sacked and the new coach that came in started giving youth players lot more chances and he let them play with freedom. They made a good run in which Aleksic was coming off the bench and then around February he completely exploded. They went on a 8 game unbeated streak(drew first two and won 6 in a row after that) and Aleksic was one of their best players. They ended up securing a UEFA Conference League qualifying spot, which is the first time they reached a European competition in the last 54 years. This season, he was probably the only good player in those two qualifying games, and you've already seen the two goals he's scored as the video has already been shared here.

He now got a call up for our senior national team for the Nations League A games against Spain and Denmark, so if you have time to watch those games you might get a chance to see him play (if he gets a chance to play that is).

Not sure what formation Sunderland plays, so not sure where he'll slot in, but his best position is the number 8 role. He can play as a 10 too, and even as a defensive midfielder, although I think his defensive attributes aren't good enough for him to be the only defensive midfielder, but it could work if it was in a "double pivot". Without a shadow of doubt, his best attribute is his passing. One of the most naturaly gifted passers I've seen. His shooting and ball carrying is excellent too. He's a very confident, hard-working player. That being said, Serbian league is much slower paced than the Championship, and he'll most likely need some time to get up to speed. I hope that you'll be patient with him in regards to that. I'll try to watch as much games Sunderland games as possible now, as I do with all Serbian players abroad and I hope you'll do well.

I probably forgot some stuff I wanted to say, but this it it for now. If you have any questions you'd think I could answer, feel free to ask.
Cheers for this mate. I look forward to seeing him play.

Great post. We play a midfield three with two pivoting 8s with a 6 sitting deeper. Our current starting 8s are 19 and 17 years old (Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg), so he will fit right in!

Then I definitely think his best position is in one of the two 8s.
Thanks for the insight and am sure the lad will do well with a bit of patience. Obvious that he has talent and just needs to mature.
All the best.
I'd say that maturity isn't even his biggest problem. His biggest problem will probably be adapting to the pace of the Championship. I'm not exaggerating when I say the pace in the Serbian League is 3 or 4 times slower than the Championship. Out of the 15 teams they faced in the league, I'd say only 5 could have chance at competing in the Championship, and only Crvena Zvezda(Red Star Belgrade as you call it) would be a title contender.

Saša Lukić, for example, who now plays for Fulham, said he struggled to adjust to the pace of Premier League in the first six months and he played in Serie A for years and was the captain of a solid Torino side. Obviously PL is even faster than the Championship, but so is Serie A in comparison to the Serbian League.

If the fans are patient with him I'm sure he'll come good.

P.S. I'll probably watch the Championship a lot more this season, as Millwall signed a Serbian striker on deadline day, while WBA signed a midfielder earlier in the window.

If he doesn’t hit the ground running he’ll get some stick on here, as will the recruitment team, but that won’t be indicative of the majority of fans and he’ll be well supported whenever he plays. We need to accept that some of the signings we make will need time to adjust and others just won’t work at all but we need to have patience.

Like every other transfer in the history of transfers then?

Even when Madrid bought Bellingham from Dortmund, it was on his 'potential' to become a great player for them.

Every single transfer carries an element of risk - this one seems to be a calculated one. Let's just enjoy it
Of course every transfer carries an element of risk. But there are definitely less riskier transfers where you have solid evidence that they player has performed at the level you're at. So the Jude Bellingham transfer was less risky because what he had done at Dortmund.

And the posts I was responding to were those going way over the top and saying "brilliant signing". I can't agree with that at all given we've signed him based on less than 40 senior appearances in the Serbian league.

I'm not saying he's a bad signing of anything but it's very much based on what we hope he will do in the future.
Absolutely. He won’t let you or others by the look of it.
Superb contribution to the debate from you as usual.

Someone surely has made a crack about never seeing a Sunderland supporter in Milan so we got one to come to Sunderland? Or something?

He's already starred in Europe this season and is also about to become a full Serbian international, with their manager Dragan Stojkovic regularly raving about him. It'll take him some time to adapt to the Championship but, as much as we're looking at him as one with potential, the club are probably expecting him to make an impact quickly this season too due to the fee we've paid and the pedigree he already has.

Superb negativity. Been going at anyone who shows an ounce of positivity like a rabid dog.

Wouldn’t expect anything else from yourself.

Yeah but apart from that…

High praise from him. He was a truly class player

"He is only 18 years old, and I saw one reception of the ball like Messi. This is something that not everyone can do. Phenomenal control of the ball, vision, passing".

He said that just before the Euros and then even today singled him out for more praise during his presser:

"Aleksic showed a quality that I liked. I don't care how old he is, he represents the future. He deserves to be given a chance, to be in the company of the best. It is an indication to other players to follow that path and become national team members."

Sounds like we've nabbed a future star 😂

What on earth are you on about man? Where exactly was the negativity in what I said?

I actually said he wasn't a bad signing.
