Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Our team on the New Wear Footbridge recently welcomed students from the Institute of Concrete Structures at Technisches Universität, Dresden to the site. The group, which included twenty students, three research assistants and a professor, were on a twelve day tour of bridges throughout northern England, Scotland and Wales.

The students were given a presentation from our senior engineer whilst our project manager gave an overview of the Gateshead Millenium Bridge and Northumbria University Footbridge, followed by a site visit to the north compound at Riverside Sunderland. The students enjoyed lunch trying a local regional delicacy - ham and pease pudding sandwiches!

The VolkerStevin team received great praise from the students, remarking that it was the best visit they have had so far.

I hope the ham and pease pudding was served in a stottie.

Is that the middle bit?
Thought they might have done south side first, the fixed the middle bit in last
I was expecting 2 smaller sections for the south pier install (big crane) then the mid connecting section will be lifted by 2 strand jacks (winches) from the south and north sections

I thought the whole bridge was 5 lifts but there only seems to be 2 on that barge unless theres a 3rd smaller one that cant be seen
