Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Persisting with a player who isn’t fit for purpose in a key position with little in reserve would not build trust in the process. It will eradicate all trust in the process.

Sunderland AFC is not a kindergarten. Whilst some might subscribe to that view, supporters don’t invest their time and money in the club just to be patient, watch sporadic (or worse) results come in and then be happy that an individual player has made incremental progress ready to be sold.

There’s patience with a big picture and then there’s rigid dogma.
That's the problem though, you can't deem a player like Mayenda is not fit for purpose when he's only 19 and only played a handful of games. He's done well so far this season.
what do you mean mate? One of our main targets is going to Cardiff to be loaned out for a season.

😂
Who's that mate?

I’m expressing my opinion that he isnt fit for purpose.

In 2 of his 3 games this season, even whilst he’s fresh and relatively an unknown quantity, a lot of his play hasn’t been what we’ll need across the season. His hold up, first touch, awareness and decision making hasn’t been at good second tier centre forward level. His work rate has been really good and he took his chances well against Wednesday, no doubting that. And that may give cause for optimism for the future but there’s just no way he should be our first choice striker this season.

You're missing my point mate, young players develop, they get better and in order to do so, they need game time. A player generally doesn't stand still, especially at that age, granted they might never make the grade, but Mayenda has potential imo.

They also get burnt out, pushed about, and lose confidence. Him having the responsibility of leading the line alone does not help with that development. Unless you have genuinely special talent (I don’t think Mayenda does), young players are very rarely given that responsibility, especially up top
