Durham Second XI 2024

Really enjoyable day at Feethams. It's been a long, long time since I was last there and it was lovely to enjoy sunny weather, some decent batting from some unlikely sources and some decent grub. Would be nice to think it may host a 50 Over Cup game in the future, but then again, I doubt it.

Best pie and peas on the county circuit back in the good old days by all accounts

Aye I remember when the jungle drums used to be sounded when the pies were delivered. Mind you Hartlepool used to run them close with pie, peas and chips for a quid back in 1993- and that was dirt cheap even back then.

I think Darlington have shown interest in that but found the staging fee prohibitive.
It's years also since I visited Feethams ,I was scoring for S.Shields. The home scorer was a very formidable and matronly looking lady, local headmistress it transpired, who turned out to be very knowledgeable and interesting company. In the clubhouse after the game it was nice to see how deferential and respectful the players were when speaking to her.Old school cricket standards

Would that be the and only Janet? If so I can recall her attending Durham's games in the early nomadic years.
I remember one particular incident when we were playing Essex at Hartlepool on a beautiful summer's day in 1992 and she was wearing a white jacket, white blouse, long white pleated skirt, white plimsolls and a white hat. The one and only Tony 'Jesus' Day approached her cautiously and enquired,
"Janet, ah wonder if you could settle an argument between me and me mate,"
"Well I'll try my best Tony" she replied
" Right thanks its just that he reckons you're the heavy roller but ah reckon you're the sightscreen!!"
She roared with laughter and replied that had it been anyone else but him asking that she would have 'boxed their ears!":D

Let's hope the local eateries are well stocked for the influx of potential customers.:D
Do I need to bring a chair?
I was there for the Yorkshire 2nds session (I refuse to refer to it as a match) and the already low amount of benches had been depleted further so I would say...yes.

My mates kid plays there, said they had the under 15’s build about 8 new benches last week, so I’d make sure they are sturdy before taking a seat
