Roko Simic - potential signing

This is my view as well. The "model" has always been to sell a player for decent profit, then reinvest at a higher level. Majority of our team were bought for fees in region of £0-£2m. We've now sold Clarke for a sizeable fee, so we're now targeting players for £3m-£4m. This is the sustainable growth they talk about.

People are unsure currently cos we've not seen how this part works yet. But if these new lads come in and kick us on they will have the whole fanbase on board
Obviously we need to see the progression . Fingers crossed we do.

Think your final note is spot on. People have only seen us sell Stewart and Lihadji under this ownership and not seen where the reinvestment has been used (if at all used). Would be good to get these 2 plus another over the line quickly so we can move on.

If youre not in the Premier league every club is a feeder club to those who are riding the golden gravy train....not just in the championship but most of europe
Even if you are in the premier league unless you are at the very top you are a feeder club.

Yes they are higher up the food chain and get bigger fees and reinvest bigger fees but still essentially feeder clubs

Brighton have built a promotion and stability in the premier league on that approach, Southampton almost didn’t same but reinvested poorly eventually

If villa hadn’t got champions league Watkins would have moved on, interest in konsa as well the list goes on.

Clarke goes to Ipswich and is class one of the big boys just pops in and takes him regardless of where they finished in the league.

A promotion for us would probably keep the really best players for another year possibly but the vultures would be circling immediately.

Not defending it as it’s shit but that’s the current reality of football, we just happen to be lower in the food chain at the minute.

Each i'd say. I don't know the fees, but if Simic is less than £3m i'd be amazed. On paper you'd think he's cost a decent fee. Isidor might be a loan initially with an option - who knows
I'm sure someone threw up reports from earlier last season when 10m was being thrown about for Simic, but that's obviously dropped due to being in his last year of his contract.

If we get him for 3m though the majority of the board would rather say we're being cheap instead of well played Speakman and co.

If we were paying 10m for him though people would be wanking themselves into a frenzy. This board concern themselves with fees far more than the actual quality of the player.

Simic will be relatively low initially but I’d imagine it will increase with add ons and have a sizable sell on fee

This is it. If we'd signed Mayenda for £5m this summer people would be raving about him and praising the board after last week. Funny old game isn't it

Each, Wilson obligation rumoured to be about 4m euro. Simic likely to be a bit more. Mendy around 2m possibly. If all three arrived it’s pretty much be all the Clarke fee, possibly more.
I would accept losing Clarke if we got all three . Mendy is the one I would be least excited about though I hope he turns out good . Just reminds me a bit too much of Jozy

They wouldn’t…they’d point out he’s a bairn who hasn’t scored a lot of goals or shown much potential to justify a £5m price tag. Stop being silly
I’ll be surprised if we do not spend somewhere in that region before next Friday.
Across 4 or 5 players maybe

Probably more likely given how most of our deals are structured.

I'd like to see us now start to buy out some of those clauses later down the line. Rather than sell a player with a 25% sell on, try and buy that clause back part way through the contract. Take Ekwah for example, reportedly 35% sell on as we got him for nothing. It would have been wise to maybe offer them £1m last summer to either remove that clause or reduce it down.

This is another way of sustainable investment without necessarily selling being the only option

Initially maybe, but there will always be people who prefer that signing because they'd see it as the board investing. As soon as he'd scored a couple of goals people would be on side

In my opinion of course
