I’ve been defending them all week based on the fact I didn’t think they’d do the one thing they have done.People have been sold who are kids for 18m and largely potential from this level. A straight 20m and I'd have said fair enough. A deal which may amount to that looks pretty shoddy and looks like the club have just took it to avoid a Ross Stewart situation next year.
It’s not good.
He’s already on the highest wage, by some distance apparently. The club should have given him another 2 years, the highest wage and a £30m release clause next summer if we didn’t go up
Of course they do, maybe not as big as we seem to have done with deals so that we were paying a pittance upfront. I doubt many would’ve done this deal given what was owed out on our end. It’s a pittance for the best attacking winger in the league, 23, English, with two years on his deal. I gave them credit for getting a good deal for Stewart this is the opposite and feels like we’ve been bullied by Ipswich town. They’ve had our pants down let’s be honest. He’s worth way more than £11m to this team and club.I’m not being funny but do you think other clubs deals don’t include add ons and instalment or is that just Sunderland?
We might get another optimistic few weeks at the start of next season too til Rigg or Neil are soldApparently the happy clappers think a lad who managed 5 goals for the top team in the Austrian league, is going to replace Clarke's 15...
Another season wrote off in a nutshell, but at least the owners bank balance has risen. Most of the fee will be spent on running the club because these won't put their own money in. KLD only bought a majority out of embarrassment after he was exposed as a liar.
We didn't have to sell, this was a purely profit-based decision. It's short-sighted imo, other championship teams have proven if you hold onto your best players you get promoted, and promotion is worth a lot more than what they've gotten for Clarke.
At least another year in this league because his goals were the main driver behind a potential promotion. You are deluded if you think they've got more goalscorers lined up. His replacement is already here.
It's all so tiresome.

So this is potentially over about £2-3m that’s swung it?
Still think the club weren't desperate? You’re just making stuff up man.
The “desperate to sell” line doesn’t reflect reality. They’ve done nowt to demonstrate that but some people keep peddling it.
If we get a big offer he may go, that’s football.
How much do you realistically think the 10-11m profit generated will be used towards transfers?
One step back, one step forward, one step back, one step forward. We really needed a striker to add to Clarkes goals/assists. Now, we've got to find one that can replace them, whilt hoping others can chip in a lot more than they have previously.
A huge blow for us, but you can't just expect the lad to continue playing Championship football at a club that just isnt ambitious enough. It looks clear that to get the strikers coming in, Clarke had to be sold. Its just like replacing one missing piece of the jigsaw with another.
Wish the lad well, he's been an absolute pleasure to watch. I'll hope Ipswich stay up as the last thing I want to see is Clarke tearing our defence apart anytime soon.
Neil will be next out as he still hasn't signed a new deal. Once next summer comes he's into the final 12 months and we will be shit scared once again. We might get another optimistic few weeks at the start of next season too til Rigg or Neil are sold
The King is not "did" I'll have you know! The king is did. Long live the king.
There will be another one.. as long as KLD allows it. KLD IS THE ISSUE
Who thinks that![]()
One step back, one step forward, one step back, one step forward.
This transfer strategy could well just see us treading water in perpetuity.
Yep I’d agree. But at same time he’s going to play in the PL which we can’t offerOk fair enough so it’s about money for him then. He can go if that’s his goal. He’ll be Jack Clarke who left Sunderland for £15m ( players like Berge going for £25m ) and ended up relegated back to the championship. Later his agent will have set up a move to some Austrian team just to keep his agent’s wages topped up. Sad but probably going to be the story.
Hope I’m wrong because I think he’s way better than that and better than the advice he’s receiving.
Well I agree. But apparently “this lot won’t reinvest”The more we sold for the more would presumably be allocated towards transfers.
