Jack Clarke

Leeds have sold Rutter. Burnley have sold Berge. Boro had to sell Akpom and Coventry has to sell Gyokeres and O’Hare. This isn’t a Sunderland thing.

Yes.
Selling your best player for what will be what £11m is an absolute joke no of buts or maybes no one can defend this sale. Youlll have fans falling over themselves with mental gymnastics to do so though. They are lucky we got off to a good start as of not people would be even more livid.

But if you were in the position to buy this club you’d do what’s right for it because you love it. Our problem is we haven’t had an owner who loves it like we do.

You are right, personally what I would do is give the player what he wants but then I would have a queue around the door of other players who will want what they think they are worth.

Regarding selling him, I don’t know, I don’t think keeping him here til next year and if we don’t get promoted his value drops because he is in the final year and then keep him again for the final season only for him to leave on a free. I don’t think that’s good for the club either.

I’m not being funny but do you think other clubs deals don’t include add ons and instalment or is that just Sunderland?

You KNOW it happened? As in have a source from the club or deal?
I don’t think you need a source beyond what’s been well rumoured. It’s been pretty public knowledge that the club have tried to get him to sign a new contract, and he hasn’t signed it.

For what it’s worth, I think we should’ve kept him for another year. I know it’s only two games in but the squad is stronger than I expected with Alese and Cirkin back and on top form (for now).

This one feels like we’ve shot ourselves in the foot and we’re still having to go over the top anyway, because the fee isn’t what it should be.

How on earth are people justifying the fee? It's absolutely beyond a joke. Knew he'd go but thought we were 'holding out' for at least £25m!

Of course long and short of it is just gutted to see him go. Thought he'd get a better club too.

But if we sell him in 8 days time for this 25 million quid with no time to bring anyone in, is it a better deal?

About 2 weeks of positivity we've had in the last 9 months and fans happy etc. Nah, let's just toss it all away and accept a shite fee, kick Clarke out and dampen everybody once again.

Club is a drain of hope.
It’s been like this since WW2. The numbers who still attend is insane. Dreyfus doesn’t deserve the club.

Ok fair enough so it’s about money for him then. He can go if that’s his goal. He’ll be Jack Clarke who left Sunderland for £15m ( players like Berge going for £25m ) and ended up relegated back to the championship. Later his agent will have set up a move to some Austrian team just to keep his agent’s wages topped up. Sad but probably going to be the story.

Hope I’m wrong because I think he’s way better than that and better than the advice he’s receiving.

We lost our 2 centres forwards and didn’t bother bringing one in. They had about 5 and still bought another 2.
Which was a bad decision; I’m not denying it as we only just scraped the playoffs. Ironically, once in them, it was lack of defenders that really cost us in the end.

That doesn’t detract from the fact that their gamble was different to the one we didn’t take tho. They got in Moore (on loan) to push for automatics. Had they failed, they were pretty confident by then that they had playoffs at least, we weren’t.

Good point well made

If this is your angle then what difference would an extra £3m or an extra £20m have made if you’re convinced we won’t spend anyway?

The more we sold for the more would presumably be allocated towards transfers.

It’s a tough one.

I had hoped that we’d have held out for top dollar like the Stewart deal, but it’s not my money and we need strengthening elsewhere. If we were selling him anyway, £5m in the bank isn’t going to help us more than getting the players in that we need.

The problem with that is our recruitment has been so shocking for four windows now, I’m not expecting it to spent wisely. So when you take that into account, the extra £5m isn’t worth much more to us than the ego massage it provides.

The club should have given him another 2 years, the highest wage and a £30m release clause next summer if we didn’t go up

Apparently the happy clappers think a lad who managed 5 goals for the top team in the Austrian league, is going to replace Clarke's 15...

Another season wrote off in a nutshell, but at least the owners bank balance has risen. Most of the fee will be spent on running the club because these won't put their own money in. KLD only bought a majority out of embarrassment after he was exposed as a liar.

We didn't have to sell, this was a purely profit-based decision. It's short-sighted imo, other championship teams have proven if you hold onto your best players you get promoted, and promotion is worth a lot more than what they've gotten for Clarke.

At least another year in this league because his goals were the main driver behind a potential promotion. You are deluded if you think they've got more goalscorers lined up. His replacement is already here.

It's all so tiresome.

The king is did. Long live the king.

There will be another one.. as long as KLD allows it. KLD IS THE ISSUE
