Jack Clarke

Like Huggins he was born and bred in York. It's 27 miles from Leeds. So unless his family were big Leeds fans it's unlikely he would have been anything other than a casual fan anyway.

I barely went to the match with my Dad. I went with my mates when I started senior school but it was only 4 miles away and a completely different era.

Fingers crossed the minster men don't come in for him

Burnley got £117m for their PL finishing position AND the £40 odd million parachute payments. Let’s call it £150m for being relegated.

If the wind blows in the right direction and we have a good season in terms of avoiding long term injuries and we recruit well in the next 10 days, keeping Clarke could be the difference between a chance of promotion and mid table obscurity.

£25m with around £10m going to Spurs doesn’t look good value to me and screams lack of ambition. Offering him a mutually agreeable contract to 2028 says the exact opposite.

you then have to give a raise to Patto Hume Ballard Neil Jobe Rigg & Roberts who have all been told there's a wage structure . If Cirkin and Alese stay fit half a season they'll need a top up too.
This is the difficult part of the model : the best players become too expensive for the club to employ ; just like Stewart

They were both on Leeds books from the age of 8 mind so that will have developed an affinity if sorts.

York does have a large share of Leeds fans... they’re def the most-supported team amongst locals.

It’s easy enough to get a train into Leeds & the Leeds training ground is near wetherby… and there’s plenty who get picked up to go to their various local academies & who therefore have a strong affinity (as you’ve said)

I think the lure of going back to a promotion-chasing leeds might be a big draw for the lad.

Indeed.

Only if he and / or his agent are stupid IMO.

Clarke is a massive talent who should be at the very least converted by mid range Premier League teams. Think Wharton and Palace for example.

Leeds are a Championship / yo yo team. They are unlikely IMO to get in the Premier League and stay there.

No you don't. They have to earn it and do what Jack Clarke's doing or raise performances to a consistent level. Some will have already had increases too. None are performing at a level as high or even higher than Jack Clarke over the last year.

All this bollocks about others wanting wage increases forgets Clarke or whoever is getting the increase on the basis of being one of the leading players in the division and on their performances and goals.

That in turn also leads to more wins, hence more bonuses to the other players too and potentially promotion, more exposure etc.

It's not as if we're going to give him 50k a week whilst everyone else is less than 15k. There are amounts we clearly won't be going to, but if he's on say 18k a week and we won't give a reasonable increase on that then you would have to question all of our business and the model.

Very likely.

However, even if you’re talking £10k extra for each of the players you mention (which will be way over a ‘top up’) that equates to £3.6m a year for 7 players. Thats absolute coppers when you’re talking about the money on offer in the PL.

Every player in our squad (and their agents) realise that JC is the most important cog in terms of what he brings. They’ll be well aware that he deserves a fair whack more.

LS postcode/addresses and surrounding area pretty much comes to Tadcaster though (so quite close to York) and the area just below York to the west like Sherburn etc are also classed as 'Leeds' even though they're about bloody 20 miles away from central Leeds.

I had a family member in that area who classed it as 'Leeds' so I do think York will be mixed, but will have a decent Leeds following.

In terms of being close like I'd probably rather drive up the A19 to Sunderland from York area than I would the A64 or M62/M621 into Leeds like 😀

you can offer him a slightly increased wage. But 35K a week and more like prem would be offering is mental. If we got a 25 million pound offer I’d be taking it. I don’t want him to leave but that’s massive money for us as a club
Like any transfer deal, it good money if you invest it well, it’s bad money if we’re weaker. For me it’s ‘can we get players in to make us stronger’
