Jack Clarke

If a player can command a £20-25million fee then they should be on that sort of money too. You can't just lose your best players because another player might want a pay rise.

It's a simple answer, when a club bids 20m for you I'll give you a pay rise
This, nothing wrong with rewarding your best talent, in fact it it gives other players the incentive to improve.

So would you sell Clarke and not offer him an improved contract just to keep the wage cap?
you can offer him a slightly increased wage. But 35K a week and more like prem would be offering is mental. If we got a 25 million pound offer I’d be taking it. I don’t want him to leave but that’s massive money for us as a club

Disagree with you on that one. If we're ever going to get out of this league at some point you'll need to break that 19k wage cap to keep players like Clarke.

The Sun (I know) is being slightly more positive than other reports.
I look back to when Speakman said that negotiations with Stewart were positive and that they were confident about him accepting a new contract. Unfortunately we can't compete with Premiership clubs and clubs who are still receiving parachute payments, they can offer better terms than we can.

Unfortunate but true. Just like with Stewart though just hold out til we get the best deal

It’ll be Harte using all the cards at his disposal, to get the best deal for his client. Going to Leeds is a sideways step at this level. I could understand Burnley maybe, but any other club in this league is asinine. Hopefully we can nail him down for a few extra years.

Yeah I agree but there's a fine line between rewarding a player with improved terms and breaking our wage structure.
If we are ever going to get promoted we need to keep/attract high quality players, having a wage structure with a cap at 19k just won't do it. I agree we need a core wage structure but when you get talents like Clarke it needs to be an exception.

I do agree mate. He is the best we currently have at the club and therefore should be our highest earner.

Surprised at this, always assumed he was a Leeds fan.
Like Huggins he was born and bred in York. It's 27 miles from Leeds. So unless his family were big Leeds fans it's unlikely he would have been anything other than a casual fan anyway.

They were both on Leeds books from the age of 8 mind so that will have developed an affinity if sorts.

I barely went to the match with my Dad. I went with my mates when I started senior school but it was only 4 miles away and a completely different era.

When he signed here permanently, the club did a quick fire questions with him and one of those was who did you support as a boy, Leeds was his answer.
