SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

We have a huge area outside the South Stand for parking up artics, and an easy tunnel for pitch access. Neither of which apply to the Wongadome, which is hemmed in on all sides and has awful access.

It is a huge area indeed, huge enough for Springsteen and the e-street band

But not huge enough for Taylor swift

My guess would be that the better your facilities ,the higher the ticket prices so more money from the deal with the promoter!we have attracted great acts in the past but i would guess that will be because we are cheap!so less money than we could get if our facilities were better.

A rebuild wouldn’t actually solve the issue they have hosting gigs mate. Unless they can solve the large issues they have with access to the stadium, they are unlikely to get big gigs.

That said, I agree that the SOL is falling behind.
What issue is that?
They have a stadium in the city centre with it’s own Metro station that is closer to their ground than the SOLs station is.

The Saudi’s are going to invest a lot into the stadium. As I said, the article indicated that it would be a multi billion pound project. I hardly think that whatever problems it currently has, will be overlooked when it comes to whatever they do there.

Ive never known a concert at the Stadium when the tickets are cheaper than other Stadiums hosting the same artist. Take That, Coldplay, Rhianna, Beyonce, Pink, Ed Sheeran etc.....the ticket bands and prices are the same across all stadiums for concerts. The promoters set the general sale ticket prices anyway. Its out of the clubs hands. The club however have full control of corporate sales and prices. Its like arena concerts, Newcastle Arena are the same prices for the same artist performing at Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool etc.

The other factor here is the critical shortage of hotel rooms in Sunderland.
Yeah. As much as the Sunderland city centre is undergoing welcome regeneration, it’s still behind in where it needs to be to compete to host the likes of TS.

The elephant in the room now is that Newcastle, which already has the advantages of infrastructure, now has to contend with this level of investment and competition.

The SOL maybe does need to find its level of what it can host. If Newcastle is getting the likes of TS, then the SOL should maybe looking at other acts that maybe are not as popular, but still have a good following.
At the end of the day though, as others have said, the SOL is about 30 years old now. It naturally needs some better investment. Everyone should be striving and hoping for this, not just for matches, but for other events. The club also be working with the council to overcome obstacles preventing the stadium from hosting more, even if that means the situation regarding hotels etc needs to be addressed and a plan put in place for it.

in should have phrased it differently ...the promoter pays the club for use of the stadium and sometime a cut of profits ,now thats a negotiation and the better the facilities =££££ so the club can get a better price!
