SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

I know it's a bit nit picking but I wish we'd do something about the grim plastic thing over the tunnel. It's very 1990's and is ugly an understatement, can't the players just come straight out into the stadium with a sheet of glass like other stadiums to protect the players from coins or whatever.

They did at first.

I think you are missing the point.
Newcastle are about to announce either a rebuild of their stadium, or a new stadium.
They are going to spend at least £2bn on it. It was all in various articles last week.

If they do that, then they will make sure it can host other events. In the article they even claim to go for more events, and even want to try and get the NFL there.
They will go all out on it, they won’t be held back either because stadium builds are not part of FFP.

When that stadium is built, do you honestly think the big acts will be coming to the SOL as it is now?
In previous years they didn’t care about additional income, so the SOL pretty much had a free run at concerts. In the summer they put their eggs in the basket for the England games over concerts. The SOL won’t have that advantage in future. Talking about England games, the SOL has already missed on hosting games at the next Euro’s because of Newcastle.

If the club want to compete in future for events, then they need to either dramatically improve the SOL, or face just getting whatever Newcastle doesn’t pick up.
The other factor here is the critical shortage of hotel rooms in Sunderland.

A rebuild wouldn’t actually solve the issue they have hosting gigs mate. Unless they can solve the large issues they have with access to the stadium, they are unlikely to get big gigs.

That said, I agree that the SOL is falling behind.

I don't really want to be negative here but I'd imagine most people would pick Newcastle over Sunderland purely on location, if they could, so unless the Stadium of Light was better than St James then it'll never have the upperhand.

Newcastle isn't the problem, the problem is why a lot of big groups miss the North East completely instead. I'm sure, happy to be corrected, that St James' has a restriction on the number of live music events it can do a year and if it's hosting stuff like the NFL or the Rugby Weekend, then they aren't doing concerts regardless.

We are highly unlikely to be able to compete with the result of a £2billion investment, if true. That's just a fact.

Theres supposedly a wattsapp group with pictures - looks impressive better than the west stand, corporate boxes all round including the South - wheres these pictures? whos a member of this wattsapp group? I know its mainly come from otr but if true somebody must have seen summet

So it's not true

Concert Promoters love the access they have at the Stadium of Light with regards to the size of the compound they can build, the logistics, car park space and the 2 tunnels to get the large trucks in and out. I remember SJM Concerts and Live Nation both complementing the Stadium as a venue for large scale concerts and productions.
