Browne, Neil and Jobe

Using broadhead as an example suggests that safc are the defining factor, however correlation is not causality

Everything in preseason has suggested Mayenda is going to be given a chance and whilst Ive also suggested this might be how things turn out, it would be down to Mayenda failing not jobe being first choice ahead of him
Broadhead didn't manage to play more than about 1500 minutes in any season, prior to the last two. I think his time at SAFC was typical of his career, to that point.
We sacrificed our attacking play in the second half of the season. Keeping procession by knocking it around our back line didn’t concede many but it’s shit to watch & we don’t threaten the opposition either.
Just as an FYI... we conceded 26 goals in our first 23 league games and 26 goals in our last 23. We were solid, defensively, for the whole of last season. We had a better coach in the first half of the season, though.

We've been calling out for a quality DCM as much as we have for a striker (or two). It's a role that would require a decent fee for a good player, and that's something the club aren't prepared to fork out for.
Weird thing is that DCM is a much cheaper position to fill than CF..

Looks like that is the 3 in midfield as it stands. We still looked a bit vulnerable on the counter attack through the middle. If we bring in a DM one of them misses out and it would be Jobe for me. Unless we go 3 4 3. Or could play Jobe deeper? Thoughts?
Neil played the cdm, so I'd be worried if I was him... Jobe scores more, Brownes a new signing. Interesting times ahead

We're not bringing in a DCM as Jobe would have to miss out. In my opinion, he's already behind Rigg and Adil anyway, but he'll start before either of those two do.
Under Le Briss , Our MF is designed to press when the other team have possession . Jobe is well ahead of the other two in that mode.

What's the opinion on Browne, I haven't seen him live yet, just on streams.
Not sure if he adds that much, but still he will need a few league games.

We're basically playing a formation with two gaping holes (CDM & CF) in it.

If we can all see this, surely the team of coaches and all the data analysts with their degrees can see it too?

To be fair stick Alex Mendy or any half decent footballer up front and it changes the team completely imo.

I think jobes best position is the 10. Browne seems to play there too, and neil is better further forward than he played yesterday. Ekwah isnt good as a holding midfielder and we seem determined not to sign one.

Absolutely nailed it.

Must be canny weird having a job interview for head coach here. Imagine having to display your competence whilst wondering if they have any clue how to run a football club.

But Browne does seem to be exactly the sort of pressing midfield player that the manager needs. Watching him and Neil yesterday nipping at the heels of the Marseille players was very impressive. Jobe's weakness is probably that he doesn't know what to do with the ball when he gets it. Hopefully that will come with real striker ahead of him.

The style we are playing demands full-on running from the front 5 for the entire 90 minutes, and I think we'll see a lot more substitutions of the front five than the back 4 this season as Le Bris spots them tiring, he'll sub them to keep the press fresh.
With 5 subs now allowed I think halftime subs should be routine unless things are going really well.

Also I think subs are essential if the opposition choose to bring on half a new team. That brings too much fresh energy that tired players cannot be expected to cope with.

5 subs far too many - favours richer clubs. Should be 3 max.

My opinion is we need a DCM and two strikers of some proven quality in league football. Probably won't be able to do that on the cheap.

You need to get about the pitch fairly quickly when you press. Jobe looks the slowest out of the 3 in that respect.

Mouth watering prospect, rather watch paint dry.

But he presses and tackles , auchiche does neither he’s more front footed.

Adil is quicker and would be further up the field to where Jobe would/could be. He also makes sure the ball goes foward, whilst Jobe passes it backwards or sideways, which is counterproductive to the press as it breaks down.

Jobe will be a good player in time, but he's not quick enough to play in a high press over Adil or Rigg. He's probably best suited to being up front while there's no striker.
