Sunderland railway station.

There's a van selling refreshments inside now. Cleaner told me they're thinking about putting pool tables in

Haven't been in the new station much but the bairn needed the toilet so went in there. Pretty grim truth be told, with a sketchy group of blokes hanging about at the entrance than outside the toilets.

The building itself is topper but they need to try a bit harder with what they're doing with it.

Network Rail couldn't give a fuck about Sunderland and only caved in to do this under a huge amount of pressure from the council and other stakeholders. Now it's built they're asking for ridiculous rents I really can't see anyone putting any kind of shop or cafe in there.

I don't understand how it's still empty , surely it's better to have people in paying rent then no one.

Ridiculous from network rail

Network Rail are the most inept chaotic company I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. They don't talk internally and apparently have no structure.

Wouldn't shock me if at head office they hadn't told the estates team there was even a shop to let at the station. In fact head office probably aren't aware there's even been a refurb.

They're incredible like that

There do have a qr code which took you to a link but didn't have pricing on for rent.

Should offer it to some local business at a discount rate and get it filled

That’s unlikely.!I’m sure it’s network rail who own the rail arch units at the end of the high level bridge in Gateshead… from memory they doubled all the rents of some decent local businesses (block & bottle the prime example) who all fcuked off to other parts of the region.

Network Rail sold all those off to someone else that's why the rents doubled. Can't remember the name though.

Edit: The Arch Co

The last government privatised them. In reality, Block and Bottle were only ever getting established there and and the funds to move on to be near a better customer base in terms of disposable income. COVID cleaned that area out as well.
