GAA president Jarlath Burns has confirmed Casement Park is highly unlikely to be ready in time for the Euros due to no funding confirmation from the British government. Very disappointing for Belfast to miss out on a major tournament.
I wonder will the games previously provisioned for Belfast be moved down south, possibly to Páirc Uí Chaoimh, or will another stadium in Britain be chosen

You could say the same about Lens and Saint Etienne. Both hosted games at 2016 despite having bigger/better cities nearby with bigger grounds

Not a surprise really. It’s a shame they couldn’t do something with Windsor Park.
Hopefully though, it might actually benefit us.
We were in the running, so you never know. It’s a real shame for Northern Ireland though.

It has hosted two men’s games that I know of. Belgium and Australia.
And one of the biggest qualifiers of thr last 20 or so years. Turkey

That a Turkey game at SoL was the best atmosphere I’ve witnessed in a football ground in my life, it was a massive game for both sides.
I remember going to Coimbra in Euro 2004, pretty sure its population was around 125,000 and the ground held less than 30,000.

Hopefully just Jarlath putting a bit of pressure on the incoming new government. Be disappointing if it doesn't get the go-ahead, was in Belfast a couple of weeks back, brilliant city. Would deffo have been trying to get to one of the games at Casement.

There is no date agreed to start the work and it will involve an entire season of decreased capacity by up to 10,000.
Villa, like most clubs have become obsessed with hospitality and I can’t see at this moment in time any incentive to spend millions on a new stand. They are focusing on using every bit of space for hospitality and even the police holding cells will be a hospitality lounge next season.
If hospitality sells out (we now have something like 17 different packages), they will make more than they would from 10,000 extra paying customers in the stands.
People are being moved from seats they’ve held for years and nobody from the ST waiting list will be offered a ST this coming season - Unless they purchase hospitality which starts at around £2.5k.

Feels like that alright but unfortunately I think it's going to be too late to get a functioning stadium meeting UEFA standards ready for 2027. Big shame for Belfast.
Casement will be built but God knows when. The old Casement was brilliant ground and such a shame Antrim, and Belfast as a whole, have been left without a proper home for so long
