Euro 2028 Stadiums

Ground?

Stadium of Light isn’t on the list because of the bias the FA has against the North East and particularly Sunderland and a reluctance to use it for a big football tournament. It’s ok for the Lionesses and a meaningless friendly against a team known more for Rugby and Cricket than for football and nations know more for chocolate. Just not for a significant football tournament.
It ends in “ia”

I was having a rational dicussion but then lunatics like skylon and bears beats showed up.
Nope. You were derailing the thread with little snide digs at Sunderland. You cannot help your obsession. It's quite funny, but must be a bit worrying for a bloke that only takes a slight interest in Newcastle whilst playing pool. You seem to be more interested in us than your actual 'team'.

GAA president Jarlath Burns has confirmed Casement Park is highly unlikely to be ready in time for the Euros due to no funding confirmation from the British government. Very disappointing for Belfast to miss out on a major tournament.

I wonder will the games previously provisioned for Belfast be moved down south, possibly to Páirc Uí Chaoimh, or will another stadium in Britain be chosen

Quelle surprise

It’s not really a surprise is it

st James is a better ground ( in the eyes of other fans ). It’s in a more accessible and if we are being honest a better city that has a lot more to offer.

You could say the same about Lens and Saint Etienne. Both hosted games at 2016 despite having bigger/better cities nearby with bigger grounds

Was the stadium of light put on the reserve list?

Well that's entirely predictable

Not a surprise really. It’s a shame they couldn’t do something with Windsor Park.

Hopefully though, it might actually benefit us.

We were in the running, so you never know. It’s a real shame for Northern Ireland though.

It has hosted two men’s games that I know of. Belgium and Australia. 😂

And one of the biggest qualifiers of thr last 20 or so years. Turkey
Blimey! Australia, Belgium and now Turkey and a few Lionesses games.

Who needs the Euros! 😂😂

You're laughing but that Turkey game was huge
What I would say is, the failure to keep the SOL up to date has initially cost us. The club has known for a few years we wanted the Euros and they could have done something to strengthen our bid.

Club are more bothered about concerts. Football always comes second
Its alright having home internationals at the SOL but as soon as you have 10000 Czechs and 10000 French or whatever turn up to stay in 5 hotels and deal with the horrendous train station, you can see why they choose Newcastle. Infrastructure just isn't there

You've clearly never been to previous European host cities such as Lens

That a Turkey game at SoL was the best atmosphere I’ve witnessed in a football ground in my life, it was a massive game for both sides.

I remember going to Coimbra in Euro 2004, pretty sure its population was around 125,000 and the ground held less than 30,000.

Didn't the f.a purposely choose the sol,as our atmosphere was top notch(at that time).I am sure they did

Hopefully just Jarlath putting a bit of pressure on the incoming new government. Be disappointing if it doesn't get the go-ahead, was in Belfast a couple of weeks back, brilliant city. Would deffo have been trying to get to one of the games at Casement.

Villa Park is also up in the air.

There is no date agreed to start the work and it will involve an entire season of decreased capacity by up to 10,000.

Villa, like most clubs have become obsessed with hospitality and I can’t see at this moment in time any incentive to spend millions on a new stand. They are focusing on using every bit of space for hospitality and even the police holding cells will be a hospitality lounge next season.

If hospitality sells out (we now have something like 17 different packages), they will make more than they would from 10,000 extra paying customers in the stands.

People are being moved from seats they’ve held for years and nobody from the ST waiting list will be offered a ST this coming season - Unless they purchase hospitality which starts at around £2.5k.

Feels like that alright but unfortunately I think it's going to be too late to get a functioning stadium meeting UEFA standards ready for 2027. Big shame for Belfast.

Casement will be built but God knows when. The old Casement was brilliant ground and such a shame Antrim, and Belfast as a whole, have been left without a proper home for so long
