Liam Rosenior

He's 50 games into his managerial career. He might turn out to be a disaster. However, he hasn't had enough games to fail yet. Most on here get bleary eyed over a manager that had almost 1000 games under his belt and 900 of those were at the level, or below, where we are now.

I think Rosenior would be ok, but he wouldn’t exactly get the pulses racing. Tbf, nor did Neil or Mowbray.

I was never overly convinced by Still mind, I worried he was a bit of a hype job, a lot of it coming from himself. It’s clear he was our number one target though.

My main concern is not with Rosenior himself, but our inability to secure our main target on two occasions.

Either the £ isn’t right, they won’t have enough say over transfers, the recruitment policy isn’t for them, or they can’t bring in their support staff, or any combination of the above.

I think the dogmatic approach of the ownership group and Speakman will be their downfall. They seem utterly convinced they can nickel and dime their way to promotion, and I just don’t see it.
Like you said, Neil & Mowbray hardly set pulses racing and both were at least 8/10 for us.

I’d say the last manager we had that most of us thought “that is a cracking appointment” was Moyes. That went well…

What's frustrating is that the club have demonstrated in the past that they can make the right appointment; while I wasn't blown away with Mobrays appointment, it made sense; a manager with a track record in the Championship and one who loved working with and mentoring younger players.

What we see now is a scattergun approach where they're going for anyone who is affordable (for that read 'bargain bin) and prepared to work within the tight constraints of their operating model
I do wonder if it was more by chance than actual analysis and headhunting we had with both Mowbray and Neil.

I'm sure Mowbray was at some games before he was hired so probably applied for the job. Neil also applied.

This time we just haven't had response and the ones we've chased we haven't offered an attractive enough package

Mowbray was sat with the directors at the play off final.

Opening myself up for a slating here but I felt like Jack Ross was a very good, forward thinking appointment at the time

Yeah it was always rumoured that Mowbray was doing some advisory work with the club before we hired him as head coach.

Wow, he used only 3 players for Derby

Canny first full season for a young manager. If he improves on that in his second full season that would be an amazing start to a career.
Yeah exactly. There’s no denying his football at times was poor and he struggled to break teams down.

But with it being his first season he’ll only learn from that with experience.

Catching a young manager at the start of their career either goes really well or really badly. But I certainly think he’s got potential to be good

I had the same thought, but didn’t really get the pulses racing bringing in a St Mirren manager.

I thought Grayson was a solid appointment at the time too.

Not trying to race bait and this isn’t fuelled in racism but would rosenior be our first mix raced manager can’t think of any others ?
