Too soon for Henderson to come back?

Did KS criticise him for going to Saudi…
No. JH approached club, club said they would come back to him, but messed him about for ages and didn't come back and then said no.

He wanted to Leave SA ASAP and KS knew this, but kept him hanging on, when JH could have secured a club far earlier.

I think KS assumed there would be a transfer fee involved and didn't really look into professionally and as it happens he was on a free transfer.

JH didn't give a shiny shite about money/wages, just wanted to come home and play, help the club get back to Premier League and maybe get involved into the coaching side at the club.

KS made a big mistake IMHO

Good for you. I admire your principles. Do you have a dislike for every footballer who chose to play in that world cup as well as all the ones who have chosen to play on Saudi?

Are corrupt nations where you draw the line or do you refuse to buy things from Apple, Nike and the like because of their exploitation of child labour?
I have a dislike for the likes of Southgate and dome of the more senior players who preached to us then went very quiet for a month.

Ronaldo for example will forever be tainted due to his capitulation to his overloards.

Not saying it's not true but, how do you know all of this. Seems like it would be pretty private and personal to me

As it stands (sent some quick texts), JH would love to come home, but won’t entertain working with KS because of how he handled things before. Unless something changes (like KS going to France) it won’t happen. 😔 If anything does change though and I’m told, I’ll update this thread, but not holding my breath.

Oooh friends....texty friends. 😂

Evans was effective for us in the championship and didn’t run miles.

I can understand those having issue with Jordan in his Saudi shenanigans which of course he shouldn’t have done. However he would be a fantastic addition to this squad and gives us exactly what we need to support the development of the younger players.
Brown was one of the very best CBs I have seen play for us but didn’t have legs to get around the pitch. One of the best footballing brains I have every seen in a Sunderland shirt.

There was a story a few years back and our lads were talking about Paul scholes and they thought he ran for miles and miles when we played Man U yet the stats did not support that. Football intelligence.

Henderson would be a great signing this summer. If we can look beyond the Saudi baggage, I’d hope he would apologise / explain, we would be daft not to proceed if he wanted to end his career back home.

Surely it would only be an extra £50 or so (it is on RyanAir anyway). Are we that skint?

He didn’t need the money when he went to Saudi.
He didn’t need the money when he went to Ajax for £70k-£85k a week plus bonuses.

He quite happily took the money, though.

But suddenly, some think he’ll come to us for £3 a week and a packet of Haribo ‘ cos he loves us’

Aye, right.
It didn't work out in Saudi, so he's not going back there, wasn't getting a game at Ajax for some reason.
Unless he goes to MLS he's not going to get super high wages.
At this point in his career if he's staying in England it's the championship and probably £20k per week max.
I don't think we'll pay that but the money he's got if we offer £10k-£15k on a 2 year contract with options to look at coaching positions after that he may go for that.
He's only got max 2 years playing career left, he needs to decide where to go with it. If its more money he wants , then he goes abroad playing at a shit standard, he tried that and didn't like it.
What other options do you think he has that he might go for

If this is true and I have no reason to doubt you it summarises the mismanagement of this club.

If a player of Jordan’s quality wanted or wants to end his career back home, given the lack of nous and experience in the squad, particularly in central midfield, we should and should have been breaking doors down to make it happen.

Speakman needs to give his head a shake or go. Henderson has worked with top people in the game and I would hope if he does come home he has a role to play in tackling the mismanagement at the club.

Yeah I do think that'd be a real possibility, whilst his ability with the ball has always been massively under-rated by his critics the biggest asset to his game was his ability to press opposing players and win the ball back quickly and if he's lost anything in his legs it takes away a big part of what made him so effective at his peak. He clearly had a pretty rapid drop-off during his last 18 month or so at Liverpool and by all accounts was rubbish both in Saudi and for Ajax last season.

Henderson would immediately become our best midfield player. At the very least would help the numerous young players we have currently.

He would excite the crowd, lift the team and no matter how much he has dropped off since his peak would still do a job.
