Was Bobby Robson a Geordie?

Did Bob ever confirmed he was a boyhood magpies fan?

Many NW Durham residents do have identity problems to be fair to them

Some want to be able to get the long awaited Metro direct from Consett to St James while others see themselves as Co Durham/Wear/Sunderland

I remember visiting a very good friend of mine only to find out on my arrival that Sir Bobby and Sir Alex were in the kitchen having a good bit chat with him, he was very friendly with Sir Bobby anyway.
He actually used to watch both Sunderland and Newcastle alternative when he could as a boy.

Durhamonian or whatever the Durham folk call themselves?

Dunelmian.

Bobby used to play golf with my Dad, who was a mad keen Sunderland fan. He would regularly ask Bobby if it was true he was a Sunderland fan as a kid.

Bobby would chuckle and launch into some amazing story about his time in football, which would have everyone rapt.

Then he would chuckle again and walk off, never ever answering the question, but he was so charming, and his stories so funny that no-one minded

It's mad how they go about professing how much they loved him, photoshop ghosts of him over the shit tip and that, when in reality the full ground was booing and calling for his head, he was hockled on by them. Geordies are thick

No he wasn't but he was a Newcastle supporter.

We have never been Geordies as far as I'm concerned - I also say I'm from County Durham when asked, bristle at being labelled a Geordie, always have, as did my Dad.

Absolutely nothing against Sir Bobby, a gentleman and a good man of the North East of England, shame he crossed to the dark side.

I live down south, and one of the few things that really wind me up is when people hear my accent and call me a geordie. I was born in 1992 and so have never considered people from sunderland geordies 🤢🤮 just the thought of it is making me queasy

He was absolutely a Geordie.
Arguably one of the finest. I don't know many Mackems who have a bad word to say about him.

He also grew up in a time where the vast majority of people form the North East were "Geordies".
Apparently even Sunderland fans were singing about being geordie in 1973.
They were until John Hall invented the Jordy Nashun for Sky TV.
Most in NW Durham would see themselves as Geordies back along, myself included. Plenty Tynsesiders areSunderland supporter too.

Definition - a person from Tyneside in the north-east of England

He was from Sacriston. The Tyne is a good 12 miles (as the crow flies) from there - the Wear is just 3 miles.

They are nuts.
No. Nor is Bryan Robson but to London media north of Yorkshire = Geordie.

Interesting fact (well I think so). Bobby Robson was born in Charlaw Terrace Sacriston. Charlaw is a combination of Charlton and Law - two of the greatest players I’ve ever seen.

He went to more Sunderland games towards the end of his days, Quinny made him very welcome at SOL , and whenever Bobby wanted to see a game, Quinny sent a car for him. I think he had fallen out a bit with the mags by then, but he loved watching our games.

I imagine Sir Bob was of the generation when we were all Geordies up here

Is there a more suitable definition?

Durhamonian or whatever the Durham folk call themselves?
Dunelmians. Some of us anyway. John Hall founded a nation so if ever I was a Geordie I'm not one now.
