Northern trains

A couple of home games ago (one of the early KO's) we went to get the first train home as I had to be back for childcare. Naturally, the train was cancelled and so was the grand central after so we knew there must've been issues. Guards didn't know what the issue was or how long we'd be waiting so we had to get a taxi back so I could get home in time. £70 the taxi was. I lodged a complaint with Northern, including rail tickets and taxi fare from the taxi company. Expected to maybe get a voucher back to use next time (at most). Anyway, after 4 weeks of hearing nothing I received an e-mail saying i'm due a refund (but no amount stated). Received a 2nd e-mail yesterday with the refund amount being confirmed as £70 and it was in my bank by tea time. To say I'm shocked is an understatement like

We're still waiting for refunds from Swansea from TPE. £216.25 for 5 of us. TPE wouldn't engage at all, they continually advise it's with their specialist team. E Mail after E Mail ignored, phone call after phone call being give the same excuse. Naturally, as soon as I referred it to the Rail Ombudsman, I got an E Mail off TPE offering for 2 of their senior management team to come and meet up for a coffee so they could understand the issues. Politely declined and advised them I'd let the Ombudsman deal with it as they've had their chance.

I genuinely expected that I'd be ignored like. Was amazed they just gave me the refund after zero consultation with me at all

No chance of us being ignored. I’ve recently had 3 train companies trying to get me to book with them as my account is the biggest non business account in the country, according to them, as I book all the train travel for our group for every away game. I now have a direct contact who I deal with, I just send an email with our requirements once the tv games have been announced, they sort everything from there and just ring me to take payment once everything is finalised. Since the agreement was put in place at the start of this season we’ve had fantastic customer service and some fantastic deals on train tickets. Loyalty works both ways. Unfortunately as it was whilst travelling on TPE that we were delayed I’ve had to claim the refund directly from them.

I’ve had the same issues with TPE. They sorted it within hours once the ombudsman had been in touch!

The train companies must be losing an absolute fortune!
