I was at University there from '83-87 and rarely left the Tally Ho public house above which I lived in my final year - this being owned by June McP.

Probably the most ridiculous decision ever. A proven French international in his prime desperate to sign for you for £7million......nah not Sunderland, we will sign an unproven knacker for double that!

Jonny Evans is a bit different though. He was a young, improving player, and there was literally only 6 months between the end of his 1st spell and the start of his 2nd!

It's quite different to someone like Mvila, who left 7 years ago, is now 33 and hasn't had a club since last May. He also has been playing in substandard domestic leagues since he left us, really. It's not easy to gauge where he might be at physically or in terms of declining ability.
