Yann M'vila - target or not?

Why didn't we sign him in the summer window if he's just what we wanted?

We need experience, but this link is a blatant PR exercise after the mags shambles.

Because things change and priorities change, maybe they expected more from Ekwah? I know I did. Evans coming back later than expected?

It won't make one bit of difference regarding the mags shambles, people will never forget or forgive for that.

He played the full 90 minutes in his last two games for Olympiacos in two 1-0 wins against PAOK and Panathinaikos.

The previous game he played 90 minutes in a game which finished 0-0 with AEK Athens who won the league. 3 days earlier he played 68 minutes in a 5-0 win (he was subbed after they went 5-0 up) against the team which finished 6th.

He has been posting on instagram showing he has been continuing training. Get the fucker in.

It's just pointing out this has the look of a PR exercise on the part of the club, rightly or wrongly.

I think the PR will be something the club is looking at too, but it still doesn't take away from the fact that M'Vila would probably do a job in a role that we currently don't have a player for.

If the club can get some positive PR out of it, then so be it. Pointless for us as fans to cut off our nose to spite our face.

His last two games were in May 2023, so he'd need some proper time to get up to speed is all I'm saying.

He was playing champions league footy last year man and Europa league he’s levels above ekwah.
Yes I’m aware, I was highlighting the fact that it would be a good singing and even if (worse case scenario) he isn’t fit/match sharp, he would still add depth

People go on about the model this and the model that. If we are to be a club that develops players to sell on at a profit then we need teachers, role models.

Those type of players set the standards in the dressing room and on the training pitch more than coaches and Yann has a boat load of experience and seems to a personality that won’t accept mediocrity and dropping of standards.

Neil, Ekwah and Matete will learn from a proper defensive mid and that can’t help but aid their development better than the X’s and O’s theory on the white board and intervention on the training pitch.

Plus our young French contingent will have an experience voice to help them and push them.

And that’s without mentioning what he can do on the park.

It’s a win-win-win.

Brighton do it well with Lallana, Milner and Wellbeck helping their younger players. Experience and knowledge coming from a different view point than coaches is often the most effective learning tool.

Just get it done.

If that's the case they can't win. The mags debacle shouldn't, and hopefully won't be forgotten no matter what happens on the pitch. I won't let them off that easy, and I'd hope many others wouldn't too.

Why can't they have just identified a target in a position we've needed since (imo) last season?

With that being said, I'm absolutely buzzing at the prospect of seeing Yann back home.

Would love to see him back, we need experience in the side and it's a position we desperately need some quality in.

Three reasons why it won't happen.

7 months off might have prolonged his career. I think it might take a game or two. But if you look through the run of games at the end of last season he was playing every minute. I think he’d instantly be our best CDM even not match fit.

This is where the rigid 'model' of only signing youth falls flat. Ekwah for instance would greatly benefit from an older professional either playing or training alongside him and putting a rocket up him. I don't think Evans has been fit or training the entire time Ekwah has been at the club.

Doubting that this will happen. Simply because we all want it to happen and whenever there's the slightest hint of something good happening the club seemingly do the opposite of what everyone wants.
I'd rather not get my hopes up and expect nothing to avoid disappointment.

Its not really the no brainer that I and others stated tbf, the squad is far too large and the decision to bring Dack in and the inability to get rid of Pritchard will have an effect on the finances and squad set up.

Most dont really care about issues down the road, only that we get someone in now, doing the same at the minute with Moore and the other 5 strikers.

By the same token you could suggest that any player we sign isn't very good due to someone else not signing them first.

Last season he was playing with better players than we currently have and in Europe, not only that but standing out within that team. Has he turned terrible in the mean time, I'm not sure but his position, experience and mindset would be ideal for us.
Dack was a very poor signing. The bloke is not interested in football and is, imho, overweight and lazy. We should just pay him off as he is contributing nothing and unlikely too.

On the other hand mvilla is a top pro and we need his experience in the squad now.

I was on the fence. After a bit of research. It would actually be an incredible signing. Even considering the model. You get him for free. He gets us promoted and then plays well in the premier league next season. You could sell him onto a promoted premier league team the following year for a profit
