West Indians in local leagues

Just reading Fire In Babylon I think it's called, perfect timing
The dvd is a good watch

Viv Richard’s looks a very scary chap

Gordon Greenidge - comments about being called a xxxxxxxx by Aussies - his retort in a rather plummy windie accent - “ I didn’t know what a xxxx was’

An amazing tean

I think they didn’t lose a test series for 15 years !!!

Beat Enhjand
5-0
5-0
4-0
If I recall

First touring team to win 5-0 over here and only won 4-0 due to rain in Manchester i think

Just heard the sad news today of the passing of Clyde Butts. One of the best West Indian cricketers to grace the North East leagues for Blaydon, Bishop Auckland and Hartlepool.
A true gentleman on and off the field.
RIP Buttsy my great friend and opponent you will never be forgotten.

Unless the lad seen him in one of them benefit games, I seem to remember when I was a kid, the pro had a benefit game, one game a season when other pros came for one game.

Think they stopped but do seem to remember them happening.
remember watching the WI XI playing a benefit at blackhall rec one sunny day for Haynes... plenty of balls dispatched into the dene

I played against CB when he was at Blaydon. He couldn’t of been be that old, maybe 65? Still sad news whatever his age.
