How come so few people turn up for midweek games?

Not a chance there was 38k there last night mind.
Always amazes me on these types of threads the number of people who can’t understand that the official attendance includes all ticket sales and the simple fact that if a season ticket holder doesn’t attend they are still counted. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Loads of empty seats around us in the West Stand which would have a bum on seat on a Saturday for all the good reasons outlined in the thread

So the official stats are lying ?

Here is my definitive answer. Season ticket holders who do not turn up are included in the attendance figure.
Four or five years ago Man City gave out an attendance of 52000 fof a midweek game with Stoke. The number in attendance was 38000. The smaller number was the official police figure.
Now, I presume, to end this debate fof once and all can somebody do a freedom of information request and find out the exact number who attend SOL games. I don't need to. I can tell by looking around the ground. Last night .. probably around 32 to 33000.

Thank you for that.

So we only wank ourselves off over attendances when it suits us then ?

I'm also baffled at why the club feel the need to put out a figure which is blatantly untrue.

Be best off just not announcing the attendance at all if they're too sheepish to announce the real figure which surely they are capable of getting from digital taps at the gates.
Prob around 32k there , 16k empty seats is very noticeable especially when many are grouped together behind goal in north stand
From where we were sat in the NE corner (which had loads of spare seats), the Prem Concourse looked a lonely, cold place to be last night.

We were half debating moving up there for this season however we thought how miserable it'd be for midweek winter games and decided (luckily) against it.

It was hardly an arctic chill. Was only hovering around 1 degree, a decent down jacket and a hat would have sufficed
Balls to whatever it said it was it felt way colder, it always does at the sol, and my face nearly fell off walking over the bridge with that wind whipping off the river, couldn't feel me feet by the time I got back to the car.

It was brisk like.

West Brom at home last season will take some beating mind. I was ill for about a week after that game even with about 5 layers on.

Looked about 25k there tonight. Empty seats everywhere, front of the North Stand virtually deserted and it all made for a terrible atmosphere. Team was poor but playing in front of that wouldn't have motivated them.

Going back to the Roker Park days, more often than not that was when the old place was at its best. Most of the best atmospheres I remember at Roker Park were night time games. It always felt better under the lights. A bit more magical. Have to say they are horrible now. Absolutely soul destroying again tonight.

Havay man get behind the lads no matter what day we play! Top 6 still very much there for us but everyone has to do their bit!
Before posting did you not realise that a lot of our supporters have to travel and that the weather conditions may have impacted on attendance.

Official attendance 37k, if it only looked like 25k then 12k season ticket holders never bothered, seems unlikely.

Pointless comparing it to the 90s or before anyway.

So many differences. I mean for one people used to go out midweek regular but don't any ore for anything now.

Things were cheaper back then so going out for a night wouldn't cost that much. You're talking £50 plus now and that's just for a fairly basic night out.

Work patterns have changed and also working protocols. Lots of work places don't take to kindly of staff coming in after a night of drinking plus loads more places do evening and nights shifts.

Then add in the buses are on strike and it's near Christmas when people are skint or preparing for work parties etc. it's not a surprise.

Great post.

Add to that there's more reason for people not to bother leaving the house for entertainment during the week now.

Internet, streaming etc etc.

A tad of cold weather/many other things just gives people the slightest excuse to just stop in (coupled with the above) these days.

Or .. Saturday afternoon in the Championship relegation season in Feb or March against Preston I think. Gale force bitter easterly. I thought if worst than the previous months beast from the east.

Same as every other team then. Watched the highlights of Leeds and Ipswich games from last night, and they both looked full and I doubt every one of their fans lives on the doorstep, especially in Leeds case.

Why are you so obsessed by attendances?
The only positive should give an advantage with income generation but you only have to get your transfer activity wrong and that cancels the impact.
