The ref (see PGMOL thread)

This is entirely predictable.

Years and years on here I read refs been too soft and not standing up to players calling them and been called soft pricks.

Yet when he does stands up to players guess what he is still a prick!!!

No wonder refs can’t win!!

Refs should stand up to players calling them but of course not to Sunderland players!!!
And no surprise to see you defending as usual

You’d get some respect as the “voice of fair play” if you also had some balance…

Am I wrong sometimes about refs? Of course, because in the heat of the moment I’m passionate about Sunderland. I try to be balanced though and there are times we’re in good agreement on stuff. When I come to your “side” though.

However I never see you take a Sunderland fans view on stuff though. Always immediate defence of the ref.

I ask this as a genuine question, are you a Sunderland fan? Is this the only football forum you’re on?

Feels to me like you’re making a general point to suit your narrative of defending a shit refereeing performance and decision?

Let’s take it on face value. Mowbray is telling the truth that the ref told both managers he would show empathy in today’s game when he briefed them pre match.

It seems really odd to me that he would make a point of sending a player off for using industrial language or at worst dissent, especially with a number of blatant yellow card offences going unpunished.

If that’s why Neil was sent off today, at least 2 Cardiff players should have been booked just before HT the other week for being in he Refs face.
Yeah it is general point in the fact I can’t understand people absolving a player of responsibility in that situation irrespective of what happened in the rest of the game or other games.

My point is not necessarily this match it’s any match where a player is on a yellow card to do what he did in that situation.

Footballers should be more disciplined and not excused which people seem to br doing.

Can only repeat it was possibly harsh decision but can’t understand more criticism of the ref than the player

Because the ref was shit. Once again I'll ask why give the ref an excuse?
Because it’s an emotional atmosphere and people say things they may not say in another environment. Why was he picked out out of 22 players? If the refs are going to do this then fine, but that means all dissent is a YC and they’re consistent. We need to know the rules. What are the rules??

TM wasn't there either. It's dissent, and bookable.
For pointing up the pitch and saying that was an Fn foul?
According to the rule book he should have pulled Onein over and had a word with Onien and Neil warning him that any further issues would result in a red card.
But this idiot decides i will just give him a 2nd yellow and ya off.
Mean while he lets everything else go pull backs other fouls.
This Ref made it all about him.

Mate, I take it you’re a ref (as you always defend them).
If a player shouts “that isn’t a f***ing foul” do you book him? Be completely honest now

Am willing to forget it and move on as Neil probably could have seen red for the challenge on another day. It was inches from being a leg breaker.

However booking for language was ridiculous.

Give over man. If he has said what’s reported then he hasn’t “called him”

Agreed, Mowbray as much to blame for the set up and subs 2nd half.
There are plenty of managers able to keep the score down to one goal or even nick an equalizer or winner when playing with ten men. The fact that we allowed Boro to score four goals especially at the SOL is embarrassing but not without precedence under our current manager.

Tbf mate the answer to that is no, if it happened exactly as you say it’s a harsh decision.

I can accept that, but think you should accept on a yellow card and 0-0 it was unprofessional for Neil to do what he did.

Or and by the way, not a ref but played football all my life Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings and then over 40s and appreciate the job of ref is near enough impossible in todays football world which is why I in the main defend them.
Should the professional referee not have done his job properly then
Thought it was a harsh decision mate if it happened and if he only said what was reported

He’s already said he won’t.

He struggles to see if the ref has done anything wrong.

if he called the ref a name etc I understand but for swearing that’s a joke.

He’s saying professionals shouldn’t swear he should have watched games during covid when had no crowd 😂😂

The warnings signs were there when he was called Jarred to be fair.

Absolutely pathetic, brought to the English game because he was MIC’d up and everyone went into a frenzy about how good Australian referees are.

Well he’s came, He’s conquered and he’s ultimatley fucked up. Ruined a ‘derby’ (not that Boro will care) as two teams were going toe to toe and very evenly matched.

Complete helmet but I am not suprised.

Frustrating with Neil’s but probably right?

but where is the consistency overall with officiating?

Could see 10 like for like fouls. Roberts yellow for one. 2 mins later same happens to us and not even a foul. Slightest touch they were down, we try to stay up and it’s seen as a good challenge and waved off.

Absolute disgrace.
