CC : Worcesrershire vs Durham

Do I have this right- if the game is drawn (looking more likely with every rain shower), we get 5 points for the draw and that’s all we need for the championship?

A bit of a damp squib, maybe, particularly for the hardy souls who have made the trip, but I can live with that.

I wonder how desperate Worcester are to win the match and set up a chase for Durham. I would imagine it would have to be stacked in Durhams favour. But our head coach hates draws.

No mate, if it's a draw DCCC get deducted 198 points by the ECB and all the team have to stand in the corner with a dunce's hat on.

Yorkshire get allocated our points and take up their rightful position in the white supremacists division.

Wouldn‘t be surprised.

He does, but even he wouldn’t risk losing when we are so close to the title. IMHO of course.

When I did my fanboy bit and spoke to him at the 2nds game at Gosforth last week, his parting words were ‘now we need to go on and win the thing’. Make of that what you will 😀

get on the pitch, bowl them out for under 400 in under 110 overs and the title is ours

I was listening to Ryan Campbell on the cricket collective and he confirmed that our other overseas player next year will be a fast bowler. He then intimated that a deal was currently being worked on and added that if he does get the player he wants, then the members will go.... "ooooh!"

part of me thinks Old Nell McAndrew, but would that get an oooh? (perhaps in some quarters, but members who have dodgy tickers might have to worry about over-exciting themselves). As far as I know, Australia have no cricket scheduled between March 4th and Sept 11th, so it might even be a current Aussie international who doesn't also play IPL

Michael Neser would be quite a coup and I think may well bring an oooh from members. Good enough to be an exciting signing but also achievable.

there is the T20 WC in June next year, which I'd forgotten about, which normally wouldn't affect the CC too much, but competition from the WC might affect the Blast scheduling, so it might next year.

Would Scott Boland be an ooh!

Great shout i thought he might have turned up for a few games for a county at the beginning of this season for an Ashes tune up.

We need an absolute maximum of 5 points for the title, but that would be in a scenario where Worcestershire take 48 points from their two remaining games. So yes, a draw would win us the title, but realistically it was never really ever going to be necessary to take 5 points ‘just to be sure’.

A draw suits them just fine if other sides are drawing too - which given the state of play in each game in the country, looks likely. They have a 21 point advantage over third placed Leicestershire and so if Leicester don’t win against Yorkshire, it means Worcestershire are pretty much confirmed as promoted.

If Leicestershire are somehow in a position to force a result on Day 4, it may force Worcestershire’s hand to try and set up a result. Interestingly, they could do so in such a way that guarantees our title is confirmed.

For Worcs to set up a result they'd almost certainly have to forfeit the opportunity of 1st innings bonus points and also get Durham to agree to collude. Can't see either happening.

Given the above, I’m actually quite excited to see how the next two days plays out. The forecast for both Worcester and Leicester looks much better and Leicester really need to force a victory. Could be some intriguing cat and mouse going on between the respective teams and their captains.

Where it relates to Durham is that Worcestershire may opt to declare their first innings on a score that would hand us the title, as a way of getting us to play ball on setting up a chase. If they’re on say 250-299 for 3 or more wickets, or 300-349 for 6 or more - it would hand us the title irrespective of the end result.

See the above, but we would absolutely agree to setting up a result if our title was confirmed in doing so.

Scott Boland would be my guess

Yeh but for Worcs to do that they'd need to have some certainty that Leics were going to win. They're not going to know that until late in the 4th day.

They just need to realise there’s a threat Leicestershire may win. If Leicestershire have a good batting day tomorrow OR if it appears that a chase is being set up early on the morning of Day 4 by the two teams in that game - Worcestershire might be faced with a situation where it’s too late for them to reciprocate and they’d have lost their opportunity to decide their own fate. We hear teams all the time (in all sports) talking about how much of an advantage and/or how important it is to be able to control their own destiny, but if Leicestershire get into a position over the next two days where they can steal a march on Worcestershire and considerably close the gap (currently 18 points - was 21 before this round of fixtures) then Worcestershire will start to panic knowing that next week in the final round of games they could end up being completely at the mercy of the weather gods. Let’s be honest, NOBODY wants to have to rely on the British weather for a cricket result.

Sounds like it’s going to be entertaining.

Score caption on the stream says 96 overs to bowl today.

I thought 8 overs was always added to each day when a lot of time has been lost.
.
Ah I see it's been changed now.
