The Situation

Yes, we can.
There’s no suggestion whatsoever that Southampton are offering anyone anything other than Southamptons own fair assessment of their worth.
The idea that Southampton are running around offering “silly money” to anyone is for the birds. It’s completely contrary to the way they’ve done their business for over a decade now. The idea that they’re offering some sort of silly money is nothing but a comfort blanket for those who still want to ignore the evidence of what’s happening regarding investment at SAFC - both on and off the pitch,
If we can’t pay the going market wage for one of our own best players, we’re in serious bother. It’s a recipe for - in the best case - stagnation.
Southampton were one of the biggest spenders in the PL the past season, spending £150m, and went down.
In the last 12 months alone they have had big money PL flops in Sulemana, Onuachu, Bazunu and Mara, and lesser money but still significant flops in Caleta-Car, Edozie, Aribo and Mara.
Only Lavia and Kotchap were in any way decent of their 15 signings the season just gone.
They aren't the model of financial acumen that you seem to think they are, certainly not these days.
