I think it was a great incentive by Durham to let people in free and if they had big crowd that’s fantastic.

I also think it’s great big crowd on the match above

The more people watching cricket the better doesn’t have to be a competition.

Personally the more people watching cricket especially with all modern day distractions is a very good thing imo
 

Spectacular effort though it was looked a six - his foot looked very much as if it touched the rope as he flicked the ball back.
Healthy crowd but not capacity as that footage clearly shows

Of course it is but my point is,is it reaching a newer, wider spectator. Lords and Oval crowds are traditionally large for the short form of the game.

Yeah that’s absolutely fair enough, I would totally agree it has more chance of reaching a wider audience and that’s a great thing, so massive credit to Durham.

My general point, is this summer cricket seems to be getting throughly enjoyed by all, the test matches were great, free incentives by counties are great as are full crowds today at Lords.

What I am seeing with all 3, is people having a great time watching and enjoying cricket, and from my view that’s the most important thing.

Personally I think that is to be enjoyed and promoted

Is it better to have a crowd of 6000 or 7000 in a stadium , that is for some 100 games or shifting those games to grounds where that would be a full house ?

if the 100 could have ground rotation then I could see the point

yes the Oval and lords always get the big crowds but the other arenas are clearly not full at all

if the leeds and the Manchester franchise played a couple at CLS would that really affect the crowd ?

same with this welsh team could they not play at somerset or Gloucester and get bigger or similar crowds ?

then the team based at Hampshire could play at Kent and Sussex

surely that would deliver the desired aim of “spreading he game “?

Fair enough, the question of what is the biggest day on the county calendar is in the end a matter of opinion but I’d defy anyone to put an sensible argument forward for any other day.

As a lover of the championship I’d like to make a case for a last day decider, but they only happen once in a blue moon and even then still struggle to attract more than the usual handful. The one day cup final is a pale imitation of what it was in the nineties. But the Blast Final is still a garaunteed sell out, with more than half the tickets going to neutrals and sold before the finalists are even known. If it’s a spectator sport, no other county day comes close by that test.
 
Wow, a clinic by The Brave, I think it helps that they have some veterans of The Hundred in their team like Garton and Mills.

Hopefully they don’t just tap and run.

Good start from Afridi, he’s tremendous like.

As for ‘sell out’ there are a hell of a lot of white seats showing in the video @HellsBells posted. So I’ll ask the question again - why? @Parkside asked it too. It seems that despite being sold out, thousands still aren’t turning up. Why? Is it perhaps because the ‘sell out’ also contains thousands of freebies given away and the recipients just haven’t bothered?

Enjoyed that. Was a shite hat trick but a hat trick for the last 3 balls which took the final 3 wickets is entertaining nonetheless.

It’s perfectly reasonable to disagree with the idea or principle of spreading the game if it comes as a direct result of shunning 55% of your core support. So in essence you’re not really ‘spreading’ it. It’s being shrunk. It’s batshit crazy to think they went in search of a new audience and threw all their eggs into that basket, alienating the loyal following they already had.

It’s also perfectly reasonable to say it’s good to see fans at any ground and the more people watching cricket the better, wherever that may be.

Although I completely agree the hundred should be spread more geographically.

It’s also more than fair to say that new audiences and younger audiences are going to be firstly be attracted to the game with short formats such as The Hundred or T20 in summer holidays than they are watching a 4 day game, or 50 over game especially taking into account modern day distractions and the time games take.

Whether games are full or not because of paying customers or freebies is up for debate which I sure you you will debate.

However what is not up for debate for me is that everyone at these games seems be throughly enjoying the cricket which has to be a good thing??
