The Hundred 2023

I’m not arguing FACTS Rafa, I’m asking a genuine question about why there are so many empty seats despite it being claimed by the organisers as being sold out. My only question to you directly was about where you’re getting your information.

  • Are the organisers lying?
  • Have thousands of people with tickets decided against it? If so, why?
  • Are they selling only a percentage of the ground in the first place and when they hit that number they’re claiming ‘sold out’.
That last one genuinely does occur a lot in American sports and is often done to avoid ‘TV Blackouts’. A ground that holds say 70,000 will have a section closed off so that the new reflected attendance is actually only 60,000 and they can overcome a local area tv blackout by making the claim to the broadcasting companies that it is actually sold out. I believe the initiative was originally engineered by competition organisers to promote more ticket sales and physical bums on seats - the sort of thing Quinny was getting at with his gripes years ago about a half empty SoL whilst all the pubs in Sunderland were chocker with people watching on telly.

Now I’m not suggesting that is the reason here because clearly BBC and Sky aren’t arsed how many are in attendance but I wanted to give an explanation to my point and show that it does happen.

You might be onto something there, just like how their own county cricket team have been shunned for the 16.4.

I think there’s certainly a bit of over hype from the tv commentators which could be instruction from the ECB. Heard Simon Doull saying sell out crowd when it clearly wasn’t, it’s all a little bit pro wrestling a times with the over hype,

Trent bridge wasn’t full on Wednesday but wasn’t a kick in the arse off

Yeah I know. And I gave you a possible explanation for why some did and some didn’t play for their counties, based on the explanation actually given for why some England contracted players did and some didn’t last September. That the decision is individualised because it involves consulting the players. I have no inside knowledge that this applies here but it seems plausible.

Well that’s it totally get for example fans of Durham pissed off as shunned from the competition of the hundred and understand that completely.

But this argument that people on here are really interested in county cricket and T20 blast and not the hundred I don’t agree with, as hardly anyone on here contributed to one of the biggest day in county cricket.

As it not county cricket their interested in but how their own side doing, and if they own side not there lose interest.

Therefore that begs the question if the hundred was expanded to Durham or a team closer, would people be more interested in it and criticism be less, I personally think so

24 year olds in Potts/Robinson might not want to rock the boat. Got many years of franchise money ahead of them

30 odd year olds need as much money as possible before retiring so instead of sitting on bench go and perform elsewhere to force themselves into the side.

Why would they pretend to be sold out man :lol: I wanted to buy a couple of tickets for last night but couldn’t, as if they’d limit their income ffs :lol:

It’s more likely people turning up for the women’s game then going home.

He had a really bad time with injuries, although has been playing franchise cricket overseas prior to this season and has been on England's radar for some time. So not sure he has been unearthed here

I don’t know, which is why I’m asking the question - but thousands of empty seats in a supposedly ‘sold out’ venue is a terrible look.

If people are turning up for the women’s game and leaving for the men’s, they clearly need to do the ticketing better.

Wood and Stokes will likely never play for Durham again so daft including them, but yes of the 6 of them only Carse and Sowter played.

Potts/Robinson at least have a chance of getting picked.

De Leede and Raine are both bottom of the list in their respective squads.
 
Well I wont be watching. I am not keen on this format at all but had set myself up for today's match. Then who is being interviewed before the game? Why it is the one and only greatest ever most brilliant most popular man in the dressing room and favourite team member - Kevin Pietersen. Over to the wireless for our game then.

Not so sure what * sell out"_means in Hundred parlance after witnessing Headingley's supposed "sell out". We need to know the demographics of the crowd to be able to judge whether such healthy crowds are achieving the aim of reaching a wider audience. In an area such as St John's Wood I suspect it consists of mainly white middle class. Preaching to the converted. I think the much larger than normal turn out for Durham on Friday is far more likely to have reached a more diversive crowd and therefore being far more worthy of comment.
