4th test Manchester

No 1 in the world, beat a superb India as well

Although if you warch the documentary about the side, The Edge, a lot of the players not sure what they sacrificed for it in terms of mental health was worth it
Cheers for that mate, one of the best cricket documentaries I’ve seen. Just watched it. Loved it.

If anyone’s got any others to watch stick them on here please.

Spot on actually. Sick of this ‘should have declared’.

I’m not saying it’s on here but I tell my mates that’s an opinion of an ashes fan and not a cricket fan.
How we batted in the second innings was much worse than the declaration. Aussies should have been chasing more than 280.

The declaration became irrelevant by that point and so shouldn't even be mentioned after this series.

The issue with the declaration on Friday was we were not playing it as a 3 day game ie, 570 with everyone having a hit fine with no rain but with rain you don't send in Broad and Jimmy as it is taking time out of the game. The hardest part of test cricket is taking 20 wickets and England were not going to bowl them out in 2 sessions. Its irrelevant the size of the lead as England could rattle off 130 in 10 overs or so if push came to shove

It might be the second most popular sport in the world - though that's entirely due to the massive populations of India and Pakistan - but expecting cricket to become a more widely accepted sport is hurt by the hidebound attitude. What is heaven's name is wrong with playing an extra day? Imagine if it was the World Series in baseball and a deciding game 7 was rained out. "Oh well chaps, I guess last year's winners can keep the title after all. Shame but them's the rules." (And no baseball is nowhere near as absorbing as cricket as a game

yet the suggestion that we play tomorrow is pooh poohed. Can we not get the players there in time? Oh they are there. Will no fans turn up? Is it not fair to someone somewhere to play an amount of time the teams expected when they arrived initially to play?

What has been an excellent and absorbing series for the Ashes and a brilliant advert for Test cricket is being decided because it is wet.

If we learn nothing else from this it should be that the minimum 90 overs are always played weather permitting regardless of the finish time. If weather intervenes there should be an automatic early start and later finish the following day and every subsequent day until the 90 overs per day is reached. This test would be a fair bit further down the line had they done that. We had 229 overs over the first three days of this match when the stated minimum would have given us 270 minus 4 for change of innings. There were two short rain delayes but they could have been made up with a better over rate, earlier starts and later finishes. There are 35 overs lost there.

If modern cricketers cant bowl 14-15 overs per hour then cut their lunch by 10 mins. It needs to be more about the paying customers.

aye feels like it’s done I think. What a shame it’s the rain that’s done us in this test…
Counterpoint is that the entire approach has been based around the need to wrap it up within less than 5 days because of the rain

Fire in Babylon about the great WI teams of late 70's-early 90s also great

Not seen the Test, can't bring myself to watch something which might require me to see Smith as a human being

He is a lizard, no doubt about it

Best of luck with your proposals, it won’t happen.

Why, here in the UK, they don’t allow for a reserve day if a full day is lost to rain is daft of you ask me.
Plenty of reasons, some good some not so good

1) draws are part of test cricket
2) the schedule is tight, itineraries are planned well in advance
3) tv schedules
4) grounds can’t afford to pay people for an additional day they likely won’t work. They can’t then magic up security/catering etc out of thin air

I get the frustration. Absolutely. But at the same time, we rarely get a draw these days

Yea, I get that logistically it’s difficult, probably mostly able to overcome the issues if there was the will, but as you say these rain draws don’t happen all that often.
