4th test Manchester

We should have declared 15 overs before the end of the innings.

We'd have scored 118 runs less, Bairstow would have had another low score for people to moan at, the Aussies wouldn't have been demoralised by the Bairstow pasting, the lead would have been 157 And Australia would be ahead now.

Crazy decision to bat on.
The Aussies were demoralised before lunch

They might have been ahead but with another two or three wickets down, I'd rather be a few wickets and 100 runs away from winning than ahead but without time to finish them off and prey to their time wasting in a final session

Hopefully I'm wrong and its all gravy but to me giving Bairstow that knock was obvious sentiment, wasn't tactically necessary or advantageous

Ok, a bit. I misread that totally 😉
Not that I expected to be talking about lords today. But for the record the one that was not out for me.

I thought the Smith catch for Root was out and that one never even got referred.

Didn't hear the Aussies at the time saying that one should have gone to the third umpire!!!

The most frustrating thing about this forcast is that every time I’ve watched the news this week it’s been about heatwaves around Europe. Fuck sake man.

Could be the most frustrating Ashes in a long time we have played most of the good cricket an 2/2 would barely do is justice going into the final test.

The forecast for the oval is not great either.

So you’re saying McCullum and Stokes have a discussion where they basically sacrifice what they see as the best way of winning the match in order to let Bairstow score some runs?

That’s ludicrous.

Lad at work was there today, sent me pic of the back of that temp stand 😱😱

That lad in the pic closest reminds me of that spinner Abrar of Pakistan

Maybe a hint on potential weather could come from the early play in the Open golf as the weather comes from that direction onto Manchester

It’s only an hour and 15 from Old Trafford to where the golf is being played

No sentiment at all.
They were going for as many runs as possible. Simple as that. It just happened that Bairstow was left stranded not out on 99.

I don’t understand that people STILL don’t get the premise of BazBall.

Hang on, in the first test they declared with 2 wickets in hand when there was likely to be far more time and being started with the “but it’s Bazball” shite.

Today they carried on when they already had a huge lead with a much bleaker outlook weather-wise, and that’s also Bazball?

I think the intent was to bash it after lunch for a set no of overs, but they gave Bairstow a few more to get his hundred

Not just me who thinks it, McGrath, Vaughan and Vic Marks all said the same

It probably took 4 overs out of the game from their initial plan

Bazball has gone through an evolution though it feels like, and become a bit more mature.

They chucked their innings away at Lords, that's the decisive difference in the series currently. Australia haven't thrown any of their innings, they've been bested or they've won, but they haven't gifted anything.

Which could prove enormous. As I say, hope I'm wrong. If there's another 90 overs between now and Sunday, doubt it will matter. If there's a spotty 60, that's nearly 10% extra they could have had.

I don’t think it’s evolved really. They play an aggressive brand of cricket and reign it in at times. Sometimes they get it wrong and there will be times in the future they will as well

There wasn’t a load of time in the game though was there it finished about 6.45 on day five. The rest may be true.
