3rd test - Headingley

So many basic errors both in the field and with the bat and some of the tactics. Seems unprofessional at best. The declaration in the first test was just conceipt.
The way we batted in the second dig kind of made that decision somewhat irrelevant.

How we only set them 280 I will never know.

Agreed I just hope what they say behind closed doors is a bit more constructive than what has been said in postmatch interviews.

It's hard to say on evidence on our batting in this test if they do.
Yeah I agree I love attacking cricket me, but no doubt it’s gone too far at times.

Brook for example been too far that way

Explain why they can't go onto 7 on a sunny day like this and why we can't start at 10:30 to make up lost overs. But the WTC final started 10:30 every day.

Then on many other days were off for bad light well before close when weather not glorious like today.

So many moans about over rates and not getting in 90 overs. But don't use the conditions when they are superb for cricket to make up them 90 overs.

Or not missed catches, or given however many extras etc
None of them have anything to do with the decision to declare but yes also true
We did neither. Pure arrogance from Stokes

You dont get to know in advance if you'll take wickets when declaring.
Explain why they can't go onto 7 on a sunny day like this

I've no idea why county Cricket can show common sense in these situations but test matches can't.

No doubt it'll be county cricket's fault somehow (ftecb)

Day one with Root and Robinson batting comfortably (iirc). Totally unnecessary to declare, then do absolutely nowt with the ball in that half hour spell. That's on our own door as is the hopeless fielding and wreckless batting. Doing the ozzies job for them.

Aye because obviously when you declare you know in advance you won't do nowt with the ball

I suspect it is a bit more complicated than just wanting to.

There will be licensing, police, transport, TV, ECB, ACB, MCC, particular County Club, etc rules, regs and agreements to navigate, plus the risk of ticket holders getting peeved if the match is played outside the published times.

No ticket holder is going to be annoyed by play continuing. And county clubs do it all the time

It's hardly a controversial opinion. I was shocked at the decision at the time. The inability to bowl them out in their second innings was obviously a bigger problem tbf. The declaration is just one of a list of annoyances.
I really struggle with your logic tbh.

We had 2 wickets to get in the last minutes on the final day in the first test.

Not declaring would undoubtedly of decreased our chances of winning and declaring increased our chances on winning the game, surely that can’t be disputed??

The fact the game went right to the end of the final day, meant not declaring would having taken more time out of the game and would have only given us a chance of draw.

It was a calculated risk that could have went either way we needed 2 wickets and they had 55 to get.

We went into this series needing to win back the ashes back and had won the toss drawing should have not been our priority winning should have been.
