The Pep myth

Someone could win the Premier League with South Shields and some on here would find a way to play it down.

'It was only Football Manager'
It was the same with Ferguson. "He only won 2 Champions Leagues in 26 years."

Mourinho, Klopp, Conte, Ancelotti. The list goes on.

Guardiola will go down as one of, if not the greatest coach of all time. He has changed the game. Last night City played a 3-2-4-1. Stones was playing like liberio in front of the defence. He has perfected tika-taka and the high press. Not to mention the false 9.

Libero y tiki-taka serán.

Great achivement by city this season, having lots of brass to spend on a squad will always raise questions about the ability of A N Other compared to a side that does it without such financial clout BUT Pep is certainly a top gaffer.

It would be very interesting to see who is capable of catching them, utd must be fuming.

He's moulded some of the best sides the world has seen. He's played a big part in revolutionising modern football.

Still not enough for some.

My perspective has probably changed since the opening post to be honest. I’d still say he should have delivered more in europe, but you’re right in the sense that he’s changed football

Yes there's been a lot of money spent but that's true for 90% of teams which have success.
His players seem to run through a brick wall for him.

I’m sure I’ll get tons of abuse for this, so I’ll caveat in advance. He’s clearly a top coach. This is more a “is he as good as he thinks he is?” post

it’s now 10 years since he won the champions league. Despite having pretty much unlimited money at City and coaching Bayern, one of the biggest clubs on the planet

He got somewhat fortunate with Barca as he inherited arguably the best player ever in his prime

look at his City numbers. He’s been great domestically. But he should be when you look at what he’s bought. The transfer fees are from memory, so tell me I’m wrong

Ederson £35m (one of the highest fees ever at the time)
Walker £50m
Mendy £50m (even without the news he’s been crap)
Cancelo £40m+
Dias, Stones, Ake, Laporte at a combined £220m ish
Rodri £60m
De Bruyne £57m
Silva £35m
Jesus £27m
Mahrez £60m
Grealish £100m
Torres £25m

there will be more. Probably only one looks a shocker, but given the money surely he has to win more?

who has he sold at a profit? Sane?

who has he developed? Foden?

I’ll get pelters, but 10 years since a CL. With that money. He’s not the genius he thinks he is?
You are not wrong. Excellent manager but Overrated IMO.

Bloke is a genius

The league is what you should be judged on like, cups by their very nature can be random and not always the best team wins, but to win the English league with the points totals he is doing every year is remarkable.

Also, it is not just always about looking at stats, he improves every player he coaches, influences so many others.

This is not a go at the OP, just in general, I think you really have to be stubborn not to admit how good he is.

Also his man management and motivation is quality, constantly challenging the players who are almost vowing for his approval
