Moeen Ali offered Ashes return

As I say I just hope it is a masterstroke. Atleast it lengthens the tail more than leach
Yeah it certainly does, and cricket all about opinions.

And taking everything into account think the right decision.

I am more concerned that he didn’t decide straight away and had to have time to consider it than the fact he is in the side before other players

I'm not arguing about a referendum on county cricket either. My point is more that in 3 years we have only leach that we are willing to trust, he gets injured and apparently the cupboards are bare. It just slightly disconcerting how no-one else as moeens career was ending has made inroads, that we have to go back to him. Granted county cricket in England has never been the most favourable conditions for spinners

I don’t disagree like but in reality it is bare

If stokes was 100% fit I think they might have took a punt on Ahmed but he isn’t so that’s why gone back to Ali

We can’t purely just pick off county form now mind, ignore Ali, a lot of our young players won’t play it every week, that’s just the reality I’m afraid. Can’t be too stubborn.

It is something that has to be worked on at that level though as having a decent spin option is vital in the test arena, especially in Asia where in theory 2 decent spin options in a team would be helpful

Aye probably, it’s easier said than done tho.

We have some good young spinners but just not sure wise chucking them in this series, foils set them back

There’s absolutely no chance of that like. He hasn’t bowled in 2 years
I meant in the aspect that he would obviously not be a better option than Leach bowling for the reason you alluded too.

But makes our tail much much stronger and lot better batsman, and if we just want a spinner to not be that attacking and get through overs to rest the seamers.

Taking all into account one might offset the other and Leach been out, might not turn out to be as bad as some thought.

Sorry think my point on Ali got lost in translation actually

I agree with a lot of what you said as it’s actually 2 years and it’s a long time, and mentally checked out

I guess I disagree with point it’s unfair on county cricketers this, as he’s a product of that

It’s a punt like and there’s every chance he’s absolutely finished

No worries

Moeen Ali recall may be a wrong turn by England

I think this is very balanced by athers, headline slightly misleading but he sums it up well

Fair enough not going argue about the first bit as its history anyway

Second point is Ali hasn't even played a game though so has even less wickets that everyone else, with no evidence he would have taken any more. He has less match practice, likely less consistent bowling due to only playing 20/20. His record against Australia is also poor whether home or away. I just don't see in my opinion how it's any better than atleast having someone who has been playing first class and the number of overs it requires. I'm assuming it's why they've only announced Ali for the 1st 2 tests

Except he also gave up on 4 day cricket and was happy to be in a bubble for the ipl I believe
The IPL bubble was less restrictive like.

It's why he came back and played test cricket in 2021 in India. As he didn't play tests at all in 2020.

He literally almost quit in the last Ashes. Be kind you could always say Mo has shown signs of mental fragility.

Make no mistake the Aussies will go after him with the bat. Then put a few bouncers round his ears and he usually nicks off.

It would almost be Roy of the Rovers stuff if a basically retired spinner does well against an excellent batting unit.

Love to to see it but I won’t be holding my breath. Out spin options are dire.
