Tony Mowbray

It's been said before but i don't ever think TM was supposed to be our manager if things planned out the way the club thought it would. But AN leaving us meant we needed someone in quickly and TM was that man. As chance would have it, he has done extremely well - but the plan was to always have a (i'm guessing here) but younger more progressive coach.

For the record I was against TM's appointment - but can not question his performance overall. Interesting how the club moves forward here but the current regime have put extremely little wrong so far.

My own thoughts are that the club will have seen Mowbray as a steady pair of hands to come in and guide us through the season after Neil left us in a world of shite.

Mowbray is close to Stuart Harvey, has been around the game for a long time and done relatively well at this level as recently as last season.

I suspect the plan was for Mowbray to see us through to the summer and then move on (or potentially upstairs) and bring in a long-term Neil replacement in the close season which is always the best time for such a change. It would give Mowbray a path back into the game with a big club without being out of it too long and forgotten about, whilst remaining close to home and working alongside someone he knows very well.

That said, I doubt anyone at the club (including Mowbray) expected things to go as they have done and it has likely thrown a bit of a spanner in the works.

Mowbray will feel he has done more than enough to warrant another crack at it, but the club may want to press on with their initial plans.

It would be a brave decision because if Mowbray departs and a new manager comes in, the new gaffer will need to get off to a very fast start or there will be serious pressure coming on the board from fans, pundits and media alike.

Whatever happens, I think the club under this board and recruitment structure have enough credit in the bank at this point in time to be given the benefit of the doubt.

I'd be very sad to see Mowbray go as he's done a brilliant and totally unexpectedly job here and above all is a genuinely nice man, but it would be difficult not to back the club to get it right given their track record to date under KLD/Speakman/Harvey.
Nail on head.

I think he will be away and it will be sad to see him go however the ownership group under KLD with Speakman and Harvey deserve to be trusted even though on face value it appears to be a huge gamble.

I know I’m probably in the minority but if there is a quality coach available that we can bring them in, I would do it.

I said when we hired him, he would only be a stop gap. He’s worked absolute wonders with the squad we have a viable. The injury list has been like nothing I’ve ever known and playing the majority of the season without Stewart was a killer. BUT … I actually think that the adversity worked for Mowbray. He really has got the best out of heavy hindered squad. As daft as it might sound, I’m not convinced that he’d have got the same results from us, had we had a full squad available all season.

I appreciate I’ll probably get pelters but that’s my opinion.
I think your probably right on the money about a stop gap. Not in the know but the match where the Red Bull Salzburg Coach was at with KLD, for my take on this news about mogga, should have been an indicator as to having other Coaches in mind for a progression of the club and playing staff, coaches, behind the scenes Academy staff.. You have to move on and upwards to be successful. Thats all we appear to be doing.

I won’t give you pelters but I’m curious as to what makes you think we wouldn’t have done better with the likes of Ballard and Stewart fit all season?

I didn’t want him here and was very underwhelmed by his appointment. He’s won me over by the way he has the team playing, the camaraderie he seems to have installed and his own passionate demeanour in interview.
I think he’s done better than the board expected and I think he deserves a full season in charge to see if he can improve on this one.
I never thought I’d say that.

I was ok with TM coming in and assumed he would steady the ship and see out the season

He has done better than most people expected but has made mistakes ( as all coaches do I guess) our home form is terrible and I thought we would not get away with Gooch at CH twice in 3 days and maybe should have started with Anderson and Alese

I'm comfortable with whatever the club decide to do but I'd be tempted to give him another season to see what he can do with a (hopefully) fully fit squad

I'd imagine most of us think he's probably manager of the season bearing in mind all the injuries and the January recruitment. We've also been well entertained by his brand of football. Maybe we should bank the positives and build on it. Keep him.

He did well under difficult circumstances. The team really played for him. The manner of play with a full deck would have given us a better chance of going up.

Would think very carefully before ditching him.

Pretty much my thoughts. I wasn't best pleased with his appontment, but my God he's been a ray of sunshine. I think he's earned another season.

This is utter f***ing madness. Obviously if they backed a new coach with funds and he did well then no one would complain, but why gamble instead of retain someone who has shown he can get a tune out of the type of players we're likely to sign as part of our model?

Could be another basket case decision that our club's been littered with in recent history. How about some stability for a change and maybe sign a striker next season?

Loved this season, Mowbray deserves so much credit, can’t argue with what anyone has been saying but had a look at Matthias Jaissle.

Wow, looks a serious prospect, club he manages took them to the last 16 of champions league for the first time in their history last year, preformed well in a tough group this year. Good track record with young players ( example developed a couple of the younger players at Leeds). Won their league this year, wanted by a few Bundesliga clubs.

I’m not against Mowbray staying at all but, can see the appeal of this lad,and happy to see us being linked with quslity up and coming managers
