The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Birmingham fan here. Just a quick update lads (and lasses). It's been announced in a local rag that the offender from saturday has been identified and details passed on to WMP who will no doubt have his door off in the weeks to come, and he'll be banned for life from BCFC.
Post a link when he gets done mate.
Should be pointed out the majority of fans are just normal footy fans and idiots like this should be banned for life.
"Helen said the club had reassured Charlie he will have his season ticket moved to another part of the ground."

So club assuring this poor lad he'll not have to go back to the North Stand, but the rest of us are fair game for a missile being thrown down.

Unbelievable this mind.

RAWA need to be kicking the door down into Davisons office.

I can't believe they wont at least go for the relatively straightforward option of installing netting.

There are specislists like this company they could employ to complete the task. They could even make it retractable for concerts etc..

Thanks - obstinacy seems to be the likeliest explanation for the club still seeming determined not to implement the most obvious, least disruptive and safest course.

This simple way forward is to install a net to prevent anything being thrown from the north stand upper into the north stand lower.

Lucky it is Huddersfield tonight eh and not a club with a higher proportion of nutcase fans who do not want to be outdone by the exploits of the Bozos from Hull and Birmingham who launched smoke bombs at the last two matches?

If he was mine id be suing the bastards for PTSD.

It certainly would if it resulted in the club making necessary changes to protect our supporters. The safety of our paying fans is far more important than the result of any game.
I would imagine you would be in the minority if a points deduction meant missing out on the playoffs ! I would think it would mean most fans being more upset with those protestors than the club.

I doubt that very much, do you honestly think , that if a flare was thrown from the away fans tonight and our supporters ran onto the pitch from the north stand to avoid being injured , if the game ws abandoned and we shuttered a pointsdeduction , that any right thinking Sunderland fan wotuld blame our lot for missing the play offs ??? No Way.

Absolutely they would if that was the result

Club isn’t entertaining the idea of moving the away fans. Money over safety. It’s honestly going to take someone to die.

Listening to BBC NCL - netting maintenance would be too much to maintain and club not looking at this option.
They'll need to look at some option or other mind. Their reasoning for not needing the net was because there'd been less missiles since they started the "enhanced" measures. Now it's been proven that those measures aren't effective, and they've chosen not to move away fans, they'll need some sort of a solution. They've never mentioned the cost of net maintenance, although that doesn't mean it isn't a factor, but regardless they can't expect to just go on as normal.

Without wanting to tempt fate they're probably lucky that this one will be a fairly low risk fixture, but something will happen again either tonight or in the future so they can't just put their heads in the sand

You've got to be having a laugh - the maintenance of a net is too much for the club
Apparently the maintenance will be too much to get oher items such as rubbish cleared with a team who will absail down from the roof to constantly clear often...just what the safety officer has told Nick Barnes.

Also was mentioned that anyone under 16 needs to have parent consent to be searched so it has been reported from other grounds that parents have gave no consent and the kids have been carrying in the items during different games at different clubs.
