Ben Foakes

Exactly. He hasn’t played any game in over 6 months.

He needs to get red ball runs for Yorkshire before he’s even considered for the Test team.

There’s no guarantee he’ll pick up we’re he left of and his career is full of ups and downs

That hasn’t seemed to have mattered for Crawley!

The only slot he could take would be Crawley’s and to a lesser extent Pope or Duckett but I think it would be incredibly harsh on the latter two.

Crawley is the only person in the team who doesn’t deserve to play based on recent performances.

This should be the team for Ireland in my opinion-

Pope
Duckett
Root
Bairstow
Brook
Stokes
Foakes
Robinson
Broad
Rehan Ahmed
Anderson

That way Foakes and Bairstow can both play, Pope can open and Crawley can go and do one.

I’m certain Crawley scored a ton in Pakistan while Bairstow was unavailable

I’ve been a big critic of Jonny Bairstow throughout his England career but based on last years performances all he has to do to get back in is prove his fitness. There’s zero requirement for him to go back and prove himself in county cricket. If any player is required to do that it’s Zak Crawley.

Not straight in imo, he has to play a few games, he hasn’t played cricket in any format.
His form is generally erratic so we can’t be sure he’ll pick up where he left off

Im sure he’ll play warm up games and be netting intensively before he gets in. If he comes back and is erratic then it’ll be the same as Crawley who has been nothing other than erratic but without Bairstow’s pedigree

Hway mate, you can never predict most things, but last summer he was simply brilliant and a match winner on several occasions.

Its the most recent form to go off and should walk back in the side at Crawley’s expense

Think Bairstow had knocked IPL on the head to play red ball for the Yorkies. We’ll see how fit he is over next few weeks.

Edit - he won’t be fit until mid to late May. Ashes starts mid June. He’s going to be cutting it fine imo to prove he is fit enough for a very compacted ashes series

Pope to open 😄😂 the lad loves playing outside his off stump, he'd nick off within the first 2 overs man.

Duckett
Bairstow
Pope (C)
Root
Brook
Livingstone
Foakes (WK)
Woakes
Ahmed
Robinson
Stone

Dont think we need to risk Stokes but I'm sure he will play over Livingstone (who would be reserve batter for the Ashes for me).

Stone needs to play, so he can have some confidence to swap in for Wood/Archer over the series.

Could do with seeing if Woakes still has something left at test level.

Anderson and Broad wont get anything out of playing barring a few wickets and risk of injury imo
Practically does anyway
True, and everytime he pretty much starts with a play and a miss against an older ball.
I know Ponting was susceptible early in an innings too but Pope still needs to be playing tighter to his off stump when he first comes in for me.

Hameed, Jennings, Libby all in the runs opening.
Hain in the middle order has started off great as well.
