Selling the soul of your club to be successful

It's much more of an achievmeent what that group did and that can be applied to a fair few other clubs as well, noteably Leicester, than say the so called bigger teams finishing in a champions league place year after year. The way it's gone with this money business has ruined it, not quite finished but you can tell the direction of travel.
it's just theatre

Most of our time spent in the premier league was based around the goal of staying in the league. It was dire football barring the odd exciting finish as we scrambled to stay up. The money wasted in just achieving that was ridiculous and would require even more to do so now (unless this model of ours ultimately pays dividends). It's enjoyable seeing a young side playing good football, so much different to the old PL days. No guarantee of any success even with mega money. One day the football TV boom will go tits up. A well run big club should capitalize in that scenario. That might be decades away of course! :D

I just hope the European super league happens and all the super wealthy piss off and leave us to enjoy real sport, once things become uncompetitive at a national level and the top six/eight is sown up the league becomes much less interesting.

If we were in Newcastles position chasing champions league football, the SOL would be a sell out every week and would need to look at extending the South stand, murderous owners or not.
That's true but this is a personal question and personally I'd hate to have such abject, immoral owners. I would not want to be associated with such a rabble. It would be heartbreaking but I think I'd have to walk away had those murderers taken over my club.

Ideally I'd prefer us not to be owned by murderers or owt like that, but aye give us all the money and all the trophies.

People love using buzz phrases like 'sold your soul' but they're completely meaningless and everyone knows it whether you admit it or not. If we were all down Wembley after winning the FA Cup final you'd be getting pissed, having one of the best weekends of your life and it'd never even enter your thoughts about who owned the club and what they did for money.

Just see everyone coming up with all sorts of nonsense reasons why you're not jealous - Man City fans are now plastic (they aren't), Man City fans were quiet and weren't bothered when they beat us in the League Cup (just actively not true) and Man City fans now only feel relief rather than happiness (aye the turn around on the final day of the season last year or the Aguero goal to win the league looked like it gave them no joy at all), we all want to win trophies and are jealous of those who do. There's nothing wrong with admitting that.
This.
We’ve been shite for years now and mediocre at best for a long time before that. I’m desperate for us to have a bit of success. FFS we deserve it.

I think the perfect fan experience in my lifetime is Leicester City. Been shite but won a few cups, came from nowhere to win the league, had a QF run in the Champions League, and are probably gonna return to being shite with some unbelievable memories.

I think it must be boring to be a Man City fan, you should win every game so when you don't it's annoying and when you do it's more like relief than joy.

In short, nah I wouldn't want a Saudi/Qatar/UAE state ownership, even leaving aside the morality aspect.

Whats going on at at the moment Brighton aswell, on the cusp of Europe, could win the FA Cup and in a brilliant new stadium after years of being in little dives. Its been a slow build over 2 or so decades and such a great story

Imagine having anything to do with this lot man, it's grim being so rich when this is the trade-off, can't believe more of the unwashed are not up in arms about it, they can't all be as thick as they seem surely? That labour MP who was desperate to get Ashley out is very quiet these days too...

The Euro Super league will come about eventually so the big Premier League teams will go.

We can compete with the rest.

Will be shite if that ever happens. It's the games against Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc that people want to see, not a run of the mill game v Fulham.

No real achievement in winning anything when the best teams in the Country aren't even there.

I enjoy watching the young uns play -develop and more importantly entertain .
Enjoyed this season and looking forward to keeping them together, learning a few lessons in the transfer market -adding 3 or 4 first teamers and giving it a go next season .
I hope we see some of the under 18s progress in next few years with us as they look a very talented bunch

Sometimes I wonder if fans of teams like man city and PSG even enjoy it that much after awhile. It must be strange to be expected to win every single match.

I can imagine it's fun to watch some of the best players in the world on your team but winning because you spend more than everyone else has to dampen the excitement a little bit.

The comparison here would be Man U. They were winning everything regularly under Ferguson with a the odd blip that let Arsenal win and look how gutted they’ve been since, only now starting to feel positive again. That positivity is on the back of signing 60+, 70+, 80+, 100 million + players. It’s become a fact, that other than the freak situation at Leicester, you generally have to buy the league.

This a million times over I love going to the match again, I love feel part of something. I love the journey we are on.
sometimes in ya life you’ve just got to say no thats not what I stand for.

Do you wish the Saudis would buy us or do you think football is finished going down this route of highest bidder takes all?

Losing your identity as a football club to be state owned is not something which should be allowed or be acceptable to any supporter. As we’ve seen with Newcastle though, a majority of supporters are prepared to forgive the worst of human atrocities just so they can watch a bit of success on a football pitch.

I don’t live in the area now and have mates who have zero interest in football and they look at NUFC fans with towels on their heads like you would monkeys throwing shit around in a zoo. They’re appalled and fascinated how much people are prepared to morally sacrifice to enjoy their passion a bit more than they did previously. (And it’s not even that much more, you can see them complaining on Twitter all the time that they’re not spending more, or developing fast enough etc)

We’re obviously all biased on this website but the KLD ownership is as near as ideal as any club can get these days. A football mad young billionaire trying to build a club from the ground up, seeking out the best teenagers in Europe to develop and produce genuinely entertaining football.
