Striker situation

Keep mithering on 😆 Acknowledging the problem of their own making would be a start. They could then move on and spin it in the way they wish to. If the players view this board and their confidence is shattered beyond repair perhaps football isn't the sport for them. Or is it the fans fault we've no centre forward.

You are definitley mithering on like.

Where have i said that what people post on here would affect the players? Where have i blamed the fans?

We've played 2 sides in the bottom half, one of which has sacked their manager. Look at the bigger picture. We've some better sides to come when it'll be much harder to get results. Look at what happened last time RS was injured, picked up some results initially then dropped. If it doesn;t happen now great, as thats what we all want, but to pretend we don't have serious issues up front is beyond madness.

The best sides in the league who we are yet to play are the likes of Burnley, Sheff Utd, Norwich, Watford, WBA. Getting results against these teams will be harder because they are good. We have got 1 point out of 15 against these teams with Stewart/Simms posing in all but one of the games. So if we do get results in these games, better results than we had in the reverse fixtures where does that put your argument.

Without wishing to get drawn into an an argument over recruitment and players we haven't got, I have been trying to think of possible options we could use to maybe change things up a little and give Gelhardt some support.

Obviously we went 442 against QPR with Clarke up front, Ba and Roberts as the wide men which worked, is that the best option we have apart from our usual 4231? I don't think Amad up top with Gelhardt would work as Amad doesn't strike me as one that would run the channels like Clarke did.

The biggest thing i think we need to look at is playing more direct down the channels for Geldhardt to run onto, rather than the short, quick interplay through the midfield? That would keep the shape the team are comfortable with and possibly bring the best out of Gelhardt?

I kind of think the opposite to be honest. Think we need to get Neil and michut further up the pitch as they're the players with the best ability to play the through balls gelhart will thrive on.

That would probably require bringing in a third midfielder in place of one of diallo Roberts or Clarke though,. So probably a non starter.

Buying a striker who suits the way we play would have been an idea

You'd hope away from home is where he (Joffy) will probably get most joy when teams have to come out and attack more. He's obviously struggled so far but there's enough people seen more of him than me think he's a good player so will give him plenty of time.

I reckon some fans would rather we lost games, played shit football but at least signed a boatload of centre forwards 🤷‍♂️

It might feel that way on this place sometimes but I don't blame anyone for being pissed off the club have met us down when everything looked tremendous for once.

I'd have snapped your hands off for midtable before the season but before Stewart went down I was beginning to feel we had a great shout at the automatic spots. Really disappointing not to build on that opportunity

Absolutely primed himself for a "told you so" moment when the teams who are just as good if not better than us beat us like.

Leeds fans rave about him as do some of my mates who support others teams, i just wonder if the way we are set up wont see the best of him, hence tweaking the way we set up.

@Twisted suggested a 3 man midfield and Michut and Neil slightly higher up, that i think would help us, but could leave us exposed down the wings? Personally i think with the squad we have a move to a 433 is quite natural with Michut, Neil and 09 as the 3 in midfield and a front 3 of Roberts, Gelhardt and Clarke - a bit like Liverpool set up

The interview with KS, which I've posted twice in recent days would suggest otherwise. He even states he was happy with just 2 strikers (one of them a loan) for the remainder of the season. We'll never progress to where we want to be if we're lending player in key positions. As you've pointed out loan players mentality can be very different to those who have signed long term deals and bought into out club.

It doesn't really help anyone if the official club line is "we're not good enough" and I wouldn't really want to hear that. Think back to Moyes, poyet etc twisting about not having the players they wanted.

I agree that the official line of two strikers isn't good enough (and even that we failed on) but I can't honestly believe that's true. It's just a succession of failures to add strikers, even at u21 level.

I'm as pissed off as anyone about it but we are where we are. I'll moan about it plenty but I can understand people just wanting to crack on and not think about it.

No clue how people can justify it as acceptable mind

I don't think we'd be any more exposed as we'd have the same players in the same position we'd miss the overload when diallo and Roberts gang up in the right hand side but we always look a bit unbalanced as is. Hard lines dropping your best player mind

Agree it would be harsh on Amad, but if it made us more a threat overall and solid at the back, it could be an option. Thinking to next year when Amad isnt here, and you potentially have a front three of Roberts, Stewart, Clarke with Lihadji and Jewi as back up and a midfield 3 of Michut, Neil, 09 with Ekwah, Ba and Matete it kind of makes sense.

I'm not gonna get too excited about michut as he's not our player either. Ekwah looks mint mind and I'd be interested to see Evans back as a sitting midfielder with Neil and (hopefully michut) another higher up the pitch

I'll try to explain then. My sole interest in Sunderland football club is seeing them doing well and staying financially sound. I expect the people in charge of recruitment to buy the players that see us improve year on year and do well. I want the recruitment team to get players in that excite us and play good football. I'm not at all bothered how they achieve that whether its buying no strikers or 10. It doesn't mean that the lack of strikers we have isn't a point of discussion and needs to be addressed but i'm far from 'pissed off' and given the progress we have made and the club ticking all of the boxes I expect from them it does piss me off that so many people are pissed off ;)

Im working on us taking up the option on Michut as hes clearly going to be worth more than the agreed fee. Neil further forward would bring out the best in his passing and vision.

I certainly would be adverse to TM trying it for a game or 2

Don't think it's set in stone, just an option. I really hope we sign the lad, looks a class act against people double his size, works his socks off and has bags of ability

Your correct its just an option, but id hope the money is already set aside for it. I was annoyed when he was hooked Saturday as he was having a really good game

The signing of Michut has to be the biggest no brainer ever tbh (if the deal is in place like we have been led to believe). I reckon we could sign him one day and expect to get more than double back if he was to be sold the next day (i'm not advocating doing that by the way ).
