Sustainability / Commercial ideas

People are loyal to the club. If there was anything half way decent people would rather drink at the stadium than in some boozer down the road where a pint is 50p cheaper.

I don't think they would tbf. Drinking from plastic cups in the freezing cold whilst waiting in long queues in cramped conditions just isn't pleasant. People only buy drinks at the stadium as they're desperate for a pint. You could make the stadium hospitality it bit less shit, but the pub will always be the more attractive option.

But that’s what it’s like now and agree, nobody wants that. I was meaning if they made it decent, people wouldn’t be put off paying 50p more than the boozer down the road. That’s obviously a big, ‘if’ and would require, decent choice, warmth, space, seats, better service etc etc etc
I walked down Sheepfolds after the match last week and realised the car park towards the metro has all been done. Who did that? Got pay meters up etc so probably the council but at least it’s a bit smarter

But how do you make it decent? It's completely unrealistic to think there'll be enough space in a stadium concourse for extra/bigger bars, tables & chairs, to cater for around 20,000 people. Not to mention that any profit made will be gone in keeping an outdoor area warm in the winter

I’ve never really understood why we don’t have solar panels all over the roof? It’s massive. Surely it would generate loads and we could sell it back to the grid?

The point is with the new FFP rules coming, we are always going to be reliant on turnover. If we dont look at other revenue streams the only that can increase is ticket prices.

Merchandise is a big one, Leeds make loads on their merchandise side of the business, up there with the best in the UK, what do they do better than us?

Have strips available to sell would be an amazing starting point, get some fan engagement with next years strip, which if we are on the ball will already be sorted
When ah were a lad...they used to sell photos of the players, I had all of the 73 team then the likes of Bolton, Ashurst...think I even had Belfitt. They were great. Wish I still had them

Belfitt!!! Did you have issues with nightmares when you were a kid?

There’s been significant discussion on the thread about extending the none supporting brick work out, which is what I was discussing. Seems you’ve responded on my post without reading the full context of the thread. Everything you said has been covered by @chunksafc etc

Ha! Aye, he looked like someone who'd had a very rough paper round, played like someone as old as he looked.

Anyone remember the cafe the club opened down Roker beach? Sure it was Gary the Hairs idea and sure it made a massive loss. However you'd think with the sheepfold development it could be a great earner opening a bar if the whole area reaches its potential.

For me there are probably small things the club can do - more shelving you can stick your pint on, quicker pint pouring pumps and improved food offering.

Does make me wonder what happened to the results of that survey they sent out - a bit of communication would be great but SD rarely comes out with anything.

Not really. I'm aware about extending out the brickwork but doing that will only get you an extra few feet of space ( without it looking weird). It's nowhere near enough for what you want. To make the stadium a better option than the pub, would require to practically rebuild the outer bit of the stadium & would cost an absolute fortune

I think you would be surprised how much extra space it would give if the walls where at the same location as the outer edge of the existing overhang.
Bit as has been said it would probably cost to much for little return although it would give much needed space

Years ago, I believe the club briefing looked at creating a second level of bars across the South Stand and east stand. The cost quickly put them off.

In hindsight, they should have done it as it will cost significantly more now

I've argued the same before (especially the North stand) however all it would do is relieve some congestion. It's nowhere near enough for tables & chairs (possibly a few stools along the back wall). Also you'd lose most of that extra space if you were to make it 'indoors' putting extra doors between concourse & main arena & turnstiles.

I'd rather we looked at new ways of ordering to get drinks out quicker and better food as it's shite currently.

Ordered food for the first time in years at the Fulham match and can confirm it was shite! The lass on the kiosk didn't know they sold burgers and looked bewildered when I asked for them. She had to go and find a supervisor to put them through the till, then fetch him again to show her where they were. They were cold and very poor quality. The chicken was overcooked and dried out. I suspect they're those cheap microwave burgers. I went full on Gordon Ramsey whinging about how disgusting it was.

I didn't even know there where a tiny amount of bars that did burgers till yesterday

Although it doesn't sound like I'm missing much

Like I've said, its been mentioned loads it isn't viable. Just looking at ideas to increase turnover to help the club
