Hyped up places that were crap

San Francisco.

Went there with an amazing expectation of seeing the centre of counter culture and the free love generation.

Found out 15 minutes into the train that counter culture these days basically means drug addled, homeless or deprived.

Not sure many US cities are much better having been to most of them but San Francisco doesn’t even keep it as an undercurrent. Get off at the Tenderloin, the London Bridge equivalent and the problems instantly hit you.

Not sure it was ever hyped up, but Frankie and Bennys was always uniformly awful
When the F&B first opened it was good. Used to go regularly with the bairns. Food was always decent. Like so many places, they get busy, stop trying, standards slip and prices rise.
MPW, when it first opened in Indigo Hotel, was very good. Not been for 2-3 years, so it may have improved, but last time it was truly awful.

I agree we stayed in SOMA my god it was rough as shit on a night.

Where exactly? We stay in St-Gilles when we visit and it's class around there. Obviously it has rough parts but there's no reason to visit those areas.

Paris is tremendous as well. I am someone who loves cities though so probably got a higher tolerance for the crap parts than some.

There’s people on here who think Millfield and Pallion are rough to be fair… suppose it depends on your experiences and anxiety / nervousness

I love cambria, little seaside village. Spent night there on honeymoon as a pit stop ended up going back following year and staying for longer. Lovely place.
