Would Ball have got an England cap

No, he was good and really committed. Could have played more in the top flight imo but not England class. Shaun Elliott could have imo and maybe Craddock.

Craddock was nowhere near international class either. Good player for us and a lovely bloke but you look at the centre halfs England had during his time, Adams, Campbell, Keown and Southgate at Euro 2000 and then Ferdinand, Campbell, Keown, Southgate and Wes Brown at the 2002 WC. As much as I loved JC, he was never anywhere near the class of those he was competing with.

He had a role in a team that was consistently a PL side. He did that role well, consistenly. His wages and the fact that the club didn't improve the squad doesn't come into it. Di Canio tried to push him out, Cattermole was close to leaving and stayed years after he was removed.
And what happened. He found his level. In league 1

What a stupid vague thread, but for what it's worth, I think Zoe is quite happy ar Radio 2, and doesn't regret turning her back on professional football.
I may be wrong but...

If he had been playing for one of the top sides?
Fuck me
Maybe would have got 1 or in meaningless friendlies but can't imagine anything more. He wasn't the best technical footballer about, was he? Saying that I do think he was underrated elsewhere in the country. Probably a case of right club, right role, right time.
Exactly, Nick Pickering got one

There were a lot of excellent centre halves and he wasn’t in the class of some of those but wouldn’t be far off some that have got the odd cap since. Certainly wouldn’t have been a regular but wouldn’t have let anyone down.
