The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

if this is true, then in the long term it will be one of the shittiest, stupidest things the club have ever done. its just shooting ourselves in the foot. solve one problem and create a whole host of other problems.

put a net up. its simple and effective. the problem goes away with minimal cost and fuss

the sunderland fans who are crying out for the away fans to be moved downstairs are pure fannies in my opinion. screaming out for the club to do ''something''

There are two aspects though. The safety and the atmosphere (which I know you don’t agree with, fair enough). All a matter opinion, seems to be a pretty even split on it.

They certainly can’t move SC holders this season so either a net or similar goes up or we carry on getting pelted for the rest of the season

Just reading a comment on another thread and I wonder if the club are concerned that the netting won’t work? Obviously a net won’t stop a coin, but would it stop a vape for example?

Perhaps, the club know the netting will need to be very close together for it to work effectively and are concerned clubs will complain their fans can’t see the match?

Would love to know how the atmosphere would be improved with away fans in the north east corner. Absolute joke if it happens.

Just about every away ground in the country has atmosphere next to the away fans (Anfield being an exception). It’s part of football culture whether people like it or not. Fans would get woken up by it guaranteed.

Must admit I'm.not looking forward to having to go back to my old season card seat in the north stand for the Millwall game.

We moved to the east stand after that game was cancelled and our new seats are taken for that one game.

I can't see why putting a net up is causing such an issue? Or maybe the club think the net then becomes a bigger problem as idiots try and get coins etc through it?

Said it before, put a perspex screen up. Not nice for the away fans who behave themselves, but better than someone getting seriously injured or soaked by a bottle of piss. The club are playing a dangerous game here by not doing anything despite many instances of this happening now and I'd imagine would be found liable if an injured fan took them to court.

Only other option is to massively increase the number of police in the away end with huge numbers of cctv cameras and warning signs everywhere.

I certainly wouldn't sit in the North Stand Lower with away fans above me.

Yea the blanket brigade in the east stand  Behave.
Where are the Safety Advisory Committee in all of this? Surely theve shared their concerns with the club as normally they come down hard on persistent standing.
The safety committee only care when there’s easy problems to try and solve like a few extra people standing in the south stand. When they’ve actually got a big decision to make theyre back hiding under their rocks.

The club monitor this forum.

Their lack of a meaningful response to an issue that is clearly concerning many loyal home supporters is disapointing.

An acknowledgement that this is an issue and is worthy of further investigation would be a positive first step.

Even if it doesn’t (which it may or may not nobody knows) it’s stopping kids getting pelted from above with objects. Can still do it from the lower bowl like but doesn’t have the same effect obviously.
Could get pelted from the side just the same. Net or Perspex screen solves the problem and doesn’t displace any season ticket holder.
Fans mixing happens up and down the country every week, we’ve just had the luxury of not having it for the most part up there. There’s always plenty making their way owa the bridge from having a sup in town.
There’s a difference between a couple of groups walking over the bridge together at different times to a tanked up full away end exiting at the same time.
