The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Can we add the road away from the stadium that has the away busses parked there.
Dark and dangerous yet no lights and police .
Only a matter of time before a serious incident occurs .
The club aren't interested in that area..council property. Up to the council.

My quote (below) - that you agreed with FFS! 😳

"Folks will be along soon to tell you that the SAFETY OF THE FANS IS LESS IMPORTANT than chucking away a 2 nil half time lead..."

You agreed with my daft statement and replied, "It is you ignorant twat!"

For the avoidance of doubt, I think there is nowt more important than safety at the match. We both think the same thing👍. I was merely speculating that some would think otherwise.
Already apologised for this. Read it out if context and in drink. Sorry

Mags have has away fans up above their own for 20+ years, definitely a lot longer than we have. Is and them are the only 2 stadiums in England with this set up. Does anyone know if they suffer with the same issues or if away fans act themselves more when they come
I was going to ask the same thing.
Probably higher up too, so would hurt a lot more!

To move the away fans into a fixed area of say 3000 seats would invariably lead to empty seats more often than not.
This was the main driver to move them up to the North stand, “like at the mags”

The current position allows the club to set the away capacity to as many or as few as they want. Flexible. Can’t see it changing.

Just started sitting in north again last couple of game after sacking it off follwing the Coventry game and the clubs admittal they didn't really give a shit about fan safety.

Just goes to show it can happen against anyone and is becoming an increasingly regular occurance.

He told me he wants a net but the club won't pay for one so I honestly can't even be arsed to chase it with him.
If there was a serious incident, the club would be liable, and face potentially huge fines as well as hefty claims for damages, especially as safety measures have been recommended and ignored. 15k is chicken feed, works out at about 2p per fan over the course of a season

The south stand, with its movable divider, was specifically designed to do this.

The police control and CCTV area was specifically located in the south stand.

The issue that is not being mentioned is the home fans reaction to being moved from their south stand seats to accommodate the away fans.

The moveable divider would mean season card holders would need to give up those seats.
However, if that enables the club to sell the unused seats “on the day” at reduced prices then it would be a plus.

The idea of the police “keeping an eye on them” is a bit outdated tho, CCTV is the way these days.

Only place for them is where boro have away fans so start the east stand wing then around to the corner if demand is there, do it in a way they can have 1k, 2k & 3k and sell match tickets to home fans if they don’t sell them, move the family bit to the north then that whole area outside becomes allot safer for families too. Whole of south stand will be the ‘home end’ with safe standing

Can they not just leave them in the north stand and put netting up,I can’t imagine the folks in the south stand would be happy to lose there seats to accommodate a away section
We are in front of the police box, where away fans used to be. Only place for me to put them is SEC.

The only place they can be moved to is the south stand. The club aren’t going to go to the hassle of it. The only solution is a Perspex screen or net at the front of the away section that is used in every European country and works.

Would be a Nightmare for policing, I’d say 75% of the ground head in that direction towards the bob stokoe statue after a game.

Was never a factor all the yrs they were in the South stand. Easier to police. Easier to escort in and out.
The atmosphere is shit like with the away fans up there i must admit. Even at 2-0 up yesterday between 30mins and half time it was quiet.

I don't see the issue here. On average there's 10,000 empty seats at a home game so what does it matter if there's a few gaps in the away end when compared to fans safety?

Putting away fans up there was a bad idea from the start. Spoilt the atmosphere and has resulted in many home fans being injured over the years from missiles being thrown down onto them.

I would love to see a return of the SWCrazy Corner and away fans put in the South Stand, like the stadium was designed for. That's why the in house police cells and control room were put over there in the first place. I'm not sure who had the final say when they were moved but those involved in the Short era have a lot to answer for.

At sheff utd away earlier this season they had large nets which protruded from the balcony area. Very simple but logical idea. Along with a bucket load of CCTV cameras.

How hard can it be for the club to address this? The clubs health and safety officer, Steve Neill, never puts his head above the parapet on this, why are we not calling him out for a change?

South stand isn’t the south east corner. The main roads go right past the south east corner. Away fans would go down the back street to their buses from the south.
