Man assaulted after son wearing black n white in Sland

In the mid 80's I met my mate in Newcastle. He was wearing a Sunderland badge on his jacket for some reason. We got threatened with violence twice, we were only young at the time. It was pretty worrying to get threatened by older blokes but I also thought it a bit strange for him to wear a Sunderland badge when going to Newcastle. Even when I saw him I thought we'd get hassle, its what happens.

Fast forward to a few years ago when my kids were younger there is no way I'd let my kids wear Sunderland tops or stuff if we were going to Newcastle as I'd expect to get trouble. That is making no comment on the acceptablity rather a comment on the expectation of trouble.

At the moment you never see Sunderland tops in Newcastle, or very rarely but the wearing of Newcastle tops in Sunderland is becoming very common. Why do you think that is? To me its arrogance. When I see it I want to raise the issue of supporting a team who is owned by a murderous group who preside over a regime that do things totally at odds to our morals. Unfortunately if I did that I may get a punch.

Nobody condones violence but I would expect if I wore a Sunderland shirt in Newcastle or my kids wore one I would get abuse at best and violence at worst.

It's defintely arrogance. After our 19 and 15 point seasons I noticed a huge number of bellends strutting about the Bridges and the town wearing Mag tops. After their relegation seasons though I hardly seen any when I was back home. I bet the majority will be Washington and Durham mags. Newcastle based ones either don't go to Sunderland or the ones I've known said they wouldn't want the hassle.

I got beaten up in Seaburn in the early nineties because of my accent (South Shields) by 2 blokes who must have been at least 30 when I was 16. Stay out of Seaburn you Geordie bastard they said as I was kicked in the head. Probably someone off here. Bellends will always be bellends.

Some braindead activity on both sides. Firstly, totally uncalled for violence. However, it was easily avoided by telling the bairn not to wear Mag colours in the middle of Sunderland.

One walked past me in Great Portland St yesterday, scruffy git and smelt of gravy perhaps not surprisingly

It was me I didn’t mean it like

I’ve seen an idiot wearing a mag top in Shiney Row walking towards Penshaw, couldn’t believe my eyes - in broad daylight as I passed him in the car.

My brother was 12 and was undergoing treatment for cancer at the RVI years ago.

Hed usually be too weak to leave hospital but on one occasion he walked into Newcastle city centre with my mam.

Now, he was wearing a Sunderland top but was equally easy to see he was not well and had cancer.

A grown man walked past and said "you better take that shit top off."

Not quite a punch but still just uncalled for, as much as any threat is towards someone wearing an what is an item of clothing.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the one in the mag top would have been giving it the biggun singing anti Sunderland songs every 2 minutes.

Not that I agree with the alleged assault like.
