Arrivals

Parkside

Winger
Since we have a departure thread, hope it's exhausted, thought we should also have an arrivals thread.
Assuming the Robinson arrival is fact, there is a glowing testimony of him on the RLcupfinal thread. Unlike some, I value the opinions of regular fans on their own players. Batting looks solid with him and bolstered by a number of promising youngsters.
I'd welcome a quality overseas bowler to replace Shadrach and an experienced bowler from those released from other counties.
Trial Weighell again for the two final CC games?

Batting looked solid at the start of this season anarl tbf but let's stay positive.

Lees, Jones, borthwick, bedingham, Bushnell, Trevaskis, Robinson, Coughlin, Raine, McAlindon, Rushworth

Would you say? With depth in Clark, Mckinney, Whitfield, Crawshaw, Mackintosh, Doneathy, Carse, Gibson, Killeen, Drissell

I'd say the holes look to be opening bat cover for lees and a more reliable bowler than coughlin - preferably one who can open the bowling with rushy?

if we are being greedy maybe sometime who can captain but I'm doing to give borthwick another go under a head coach who isn't Franklin.

I'd have Carse in before Coughlin and have to be careful not to overwork Maclindon.
That's why the need for 2 more experienced seamers so you can rotate. Michael Hussey insisted on that so it's gospel afaic.

Yeah that's fair, the likes of carse, woody, stokes and Potts i
haven't really given much thought because think they'll be missing alot. We need to plan for life without them and anything we get is a bonus

Agree about bowling, especially given mcalindon and rushy injured to end the season.

Two bowlers and a batsman (depending on how confident we are in McKinney, Crawshaw, Whitfield being ready or mackintosh and Robinson both playing)

There was a post on another thread (can’t find it!) suggesting Darren Stevens as player coach and Killeen being appointed full time.

Just read on BBC Sport that he wanted to stay at Kent but hasn’t been offered a deal and has 2 player coach offers elsewhere. Might be a runner. Looks in good nick for 46!

@heaven up there ?

That was me

I knew he was after coaching didn't realise he had an offer already.

Realistically if we weren't going to offer onions a role here I can't see us offering one to Stevens, I imagine he'll stay down south/London but am open to being an accidental itk

Onions a shout for coach? Been involved at Lancs for the last couple of years. I wouldn't rule out Stevens on the grounds that Onions didn't get offered a role a few years ago, times change, might be down a coach or two Vs then especially if we promote internally to head coach.

Still think we missed a trick with Evison.
The lad who played against us last week for Leicestershre I think was useful as well, signed from Notts.
Weighall as I've said would be a solid signing.

We've got 4 bowling coaches,Killeen, Walker, Gidman and Rimmington. It's a batting coach we need even if it's just in a consultancy role.

Not a cat on hells chance of that happening, will want a kings ransome

The money is probably out of our reach but no doubt he's one of North's mates and might be able to persuade him to come over on a lower salary.

However I suspect he'll be a coach in the IPL so we wouldn't have him at the start of the season so that would be no good for us.

Wat were peoples thoughts on the bowling attack this season? Normally it’s our strongest focal point but I thought we really struggled this season bar pottsy.

Batting was the usual I thought.

Think our style of attack bar Potts was blunted by the better weather early season. The ball going soft also lacks pace when the England calls up. Plus no front line spinner.

If we lose Dickson & Bedingham you would have to worry for the batting unit. Jones has had a very good season so you hope he can do the same again. But we need additions if we are looking to get our of the division sadly we seem to be Al about keeping the costs down.

i though batting has been a lot better this season, the bowling attack had only Rushy as a wicket taking threat(if you discount potts for being way with England.

of course we have Raine as a very useful 3rd quick but we dont have a twin opening bowling attack as of old with Pootts on Ebgland duty.
Despite the dry pitches I dont think spin has done well either.

I am pretty excited with MacAlinden as a prospect for the future though.

Our bowling has been largely nullified by the pitches this season (Matty P excepted). That isn't going to change next year, because flat pitches are the ECB and Key's preferred option to improve batting and to develop faster bowlers and better spinners for England. That's the route we have to go down, I think. The days of the 70 to 80 mph bowler are numbered.
I'd always prioritise a very decent spinner as our other overseas player, given that Bedders now takes the first berth. I wouldn't touch an overseas batter with a bargepole and I've never understood why we go down that route year in, year out. It seems to me that our greatest squad weakness has been the lack of a wicket taking spinner and I think that has been true since Blackwell finished. I've always thought that was blindingly obvious but for some reason no-one at Durham CCC has ever agreed with me

I think you’ll find Stevens in the midlands when next season roles around. A stint at Derby on loan and his previous club Leicester likely candidates. Could be an excellent signing for Durham on the right kind of contract for a player transitioning

Didn't realise this, I wish him all the best of luck with that ♥️

I’m sure Evison must of been looked at by Durham. But I also think a lot more clubs than just Kent would have wanted his services. All supply and demand, you’d of been paying a big wage to compete.
Weighell a great signing, especially if he’s used on rotation
