Is there one black comedian

Generally speaking british ethnic minority and female comedians are utter shite. I’m pretty pro BBC but they have dug their own grave misgauging what a majority of their customers want.

I suppose it's hard for them to speak about their lives feeling like in outsider in a country where the majority of people are another race. It's intrinsic to who they are.

If you counted subjects the likes of Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock and Patrice O'Neill talked about, you might find that white people come right at the bottom of the list of topics below women and other black men. It probably just feels like they talk about white people more because your ears prick up.

The black man’s experience in the western world is pretty much defined by how they are perceived by white people. They are an ethnic minority (albeit, in some countries a sizeable minority) in the countries where their humour is generally witnessed.

So with a white audience you’d expect the humour to be around - this is how I perceive my world living amongst people who aren’t always aware of how they respond to me etc., and with a majority black audience (which tends to happen the U.S. mostly I expect) I suppose the humour will be based around a common experience.

Bobby Thompson’s humour was ENTIRELY based around the latter, his ‘common experience’ humour was entirely north east England. Probably why he never did anything outside the region.

I don’t know if humour in countries where the majority of the population is black, mentions white people to the same extent, but I’d expect it does, because imperialism has meant that the rulers and elite of those countries tended to be white and even now the black man’s experience is hugely influenced by the white perception of him/her.

That’s just a few meandering thoughts.

I expect it’ll enrage a few. Don’t give a shit.

I also expect my points are inconsistent and poorly expressed. Meh.

I didn’t start it.

Some of the material has dated pretty badly in places, but Delirious (Eddie Murphy) is still brilliant.

I find the inability of people to judge art, particular comedy in it’s historical context really irritating.

The only question should be, is it funny?
